Yep! The other day at my favourite beach the lifeguards were packing up for the day. There was a bit of a rip which I could feel in the water myself when I had been in earlier on and conditions outside of the flags were so much worse, so they advised everyone to get out of the water. The sheer amount of people who didn't listen was insane, and by the time the lifeguards had officially left they had already been dragged a good distance down the beach

I wish more people understood secondary drowning (some people refer to it as "dry drowning" but that term isn't correct, at least from a medical standpoint) and would just go to hospital just to be safe. You see someone nearly drown like Mohammad did, and that's all I can think of, is the possibility of secondary drowning.

TL;DR: This reminds me of the weekend of July 16-17 when we had similar conditions. We had conditions like this last weekend when the weakened hurricane from across the other side of the Pacific came by (well it's low pressure system). Those waves knocked out a wedding, but that couple still held it. It flooded a lot of stuff on the end of the chain that has the southern most island and the southernmost point in the US (South Point on the Big Island [aka the island of Hawaii], which is kind of weird because I thought Texas was the southernmost point of the US). It flooded buildings over there, millions of USD worth of damage. I kind of feel like on the island I live on all it did was push more sand away from the shore and on to the walkway (Publics surf spot end of Waikiki), they don't even clear the sand away at that point anymore and the Lifeguard tower isn't even a tower anymore, it became a hut; yes they took the top of the tower off the tower and moved it upshore, I mean directly behind where it used to be in the grassy area where there's also a lot of sand, which they don't clear away anymore. I remember that area 3 years ago, they did used to clear the sand from the walkway (at least the sand encroaching the walkway, if it got up to the grass they [parks dept] probably don't) and the lifeguard tower was still a tower on the shore. Yep the shore at that point is pretty eroded away, and I don't think the recent high surf incident caused by the storm system from the hurricane helped that erosion situation. Interesting fact: That hurricane actually crossed over as a tropical storm to the Pacific from the Atlantic. Through the Gulf of Mexico to the other side.

After swimming at the beach with no lifeguards where my beach house is at for so many years this show is making me rethink it. When I was in my teens & a strong swimmer me & my friends used to go deep to sandbars to hangout now we only go about waist deep almost always. Not worth dying to go deeper, when we’re drinking we don’t even go waist deep. Someone in my family died in the water, ate a big meal & then went swimming, got a cramp & couldn’t stay above water. Family were too late to pull him out of the water, that was over 50 years ago but our family always remember that unfortunate lesson. We still will go deep but only with surfboards, one of my friends dad likes to float on his back & he’ll get about a half mile out or more before he turns around & catches waves back in, expert level swimmer, he’ll float for 30 mins to an hour before coming back in

Honestly this episode was almost too infuriating to watch- when that guy who TRIED TO GO SNORKELING AFTER THEY CLOSED THE BEACH STARTED WAVING to be rescued (as if he should assume that there are lifeguards there anymore that are even going to see him and come out there), I nearly lost it. And that was only halfway through the episode. At that point, it is absolutely appropriate to start fining people (and especially *parents*) to try and teach them some consequences at all, sadly for their own safety as well as others, before someone actually gets irrevocably hurt or dies!!!!!!!!!!!
