@ruthrainous3068 Hey some of the great lakes have fairly decent beaches... Bradford Beach on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, WI for example during peak summer can look just like a beach on the coast! Believe me I know it's not the same, but sometimes for just a moment on an especially hot and sunny day with the gulls cawing overhead and the sound of the surf, you can close your eyes and almost imagine that the water is briney and smell the salt in the air. As a lifelong sailor and ocean lover myself, it's really the best I can get living in southeast Wisconsin. Although unfortunately as a surfer as well there's hardly any proper waves to let me scratch that itch unless it's a really heavy surf day and the wind is *just* right, in which case it's usually a bit too chilly to enjoy it for more than a couple runs 😢.

I feel like the majority of missing children cases come down to three things - - First is local culture / more relaxed view, the ocean is such a huge part of life in Australia, this area especially, I think because they go so often it’s easier to drop their guard and not stay vigilant 100% of the time. Like for people who don’t go to the ocean often, when they do go it’s like a big event and you’re more likely to be hyper vigilant out of unfamiliarity, but if you go to the beach everyday and everything is always fine, it’s easy to drop your guard. - Second factor I think is regional unfamiliarity / blissful ignorance of the ocean. I think many of the backpackers and tourists come from landlocked locations or have never been able to go to a beach, let alone be in the ocean; many have only ever been in small pools so they don’t have any fear of the water and know nothing about how the ocean creates rips. They’re also just so happy to be on vacation that danger isn’t in the front of their mind. - Last obvious factor is selfishness/inattention. A lot of these parents have possibly never been on vacation or in sad cases just don’t see the importance of watching their children closely.

I would never put myself in danger intentionally and deeply respect the power of the ocean but being rescued by any of you would be a girls dream lol ❤ So much respect to every single one of you, I cannot give thanks to all of you enough for everything you do
