Whether we're talking about corporate bonds, municipal bonds, government bonds or other types of bonds, the principle is simple: an entity requests a loan and a lender is willing to offer money to the entity in question in exchange for interest (although in our current low to zero to negative interest environment, that part is debatable).
Through this one minute video, I've explained how the process works.
Please like, comment and subscribe if you've enjoyed the video.

Also, a general principle of bonds is that the older you get, the more bonds you will likely own in your portfolio. Bonds generally do not suit very young people. It's more for people getting closer to retirement.

Good point, although in light of 2020's retail trading craziness, it wouldn't surprise me for young and over-leveraged trading beginners to put an end to that trend :)

Will you go into more details on bonds (I.e. grades, collateral backing, YTM rates etc)?

Oh yes, there will definitely be more detailed videos related to bonds later on. Through this one, I just wanted to cover the basics and explain how bonds work but as the channel grows, I will definitely address more specific bond-related topics.

Is now a good time to invest in quality USA corporate bonds as the interest rates has decreased?
@OneMinuteEconomics
@OneMinuteEconomics 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on whether you have a short or long-term outlook. Long-term speaking, let me ask you this: how do you see the interest rate environment 10 years down the road and why? :)
@astrobiker4348
@astrobiker4348 5 жыл бұрын
One Minute Economics this is a short term outlook. In 10 years, the interest rate will be higher as the economy will hopefully be in a better shape so bonds would not be as attractive.

where does the money to pay the bond holder comes from?
@OneMinuteEconomics
@OneMinuteEconomics 4 ай бұрын
Depends on the type of bond... commercial activity if we are referring to corporate bonds, different kinds of taxation for municipal and government bonds, etc. :) Again, think of it as a loan. When someone lends you money, you pay it back by earning money through whatever it is you do for a living. Same principle applies when it comes to bonds.

What's mean by selling bonds to others??
@OneMinuteEconomics

If you don't want to hold a bond to maturity, maybe because you need quick liquidity due to a medical or personal emergency, you can always sell it to someone else at the current market price. A significant advantage for sure.

I keep seeing stupid ads for beds before this video
@OneMinuteEconomics
@OneMinuteEconomics 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I don't have any control over the ads you see, it's most likely due to technology called retargeting. In other words, perhaps you've visited a furniture store/website recently and as a result, the algorithm decided to serve you the bed ads :)

@@OneMinuteEconomics Exactly. I don't see why you are even responding to this idiot who has his own frustrations and has decided to take them out on your comments section. You are doing a great job. Such individuals I would just block. Probably an immature kid who has no respect for himself or others. They are a dime a dozen online, bolstered by anonymity.
