My best friend Mitzi and I love to make light of a dark situation. You could pretend it's us having lunch and you're holding space for me to share my journey, now at day 70. I can't believe I've made it this far, and I get to return home in just 4 short weeks. The mortality rate for my specific type of bone marrow transplant (after two years) is 40%, and I'm confident I'll be in the lucky 60% who make it.
Thank you to all who have selflessly donated to support me during this time. I know the economy is absolutely insane and wildly unfair to working class folks and it means the world that you'd show your support in that way. I have a few months before I'll be able to return to work, and unfortunately my employer terminated my benefits, so I need to buy COBRA insurance coverage-- which is another $800 per month on top of my existing expenses. So, in that sense, we're not quite out of the woods- but I am confident solutions will come.
