Bonefish fly tying, the Bunny crab

This is a really easy, really simple fly that's quick to tie. Even a novice tier can manage to produce a good version of this highly effective bonefish fly in no time at all. It's full of movement, even when sitting still, great for those pressured fish that shy away from flashy patterns that need to be stripped. Give this one a slow pull, let it sit and old on! Oh, and Carp love it too. Enjoy!

Well, not for sure if we have this type of crabs in Hawaii, but this morning the bones laughed at me, with everything I offered. So this is next in the arsenal, Ya never know !! Mahalo Nui Loa

Nice pattern Martyn. For me, tied on a #8 or #6 B10S with black bead chain medium or small and medium olive black barred rabbit with brownish barred orange rubber legs, this fly has become my go to shallow water carp fly this year! It roll casts easily and sets down quietly to spooky fish. It can be manipulated along the bottom nicely. I've watched fish deviate considerably off their feeding line to inhale it.The only thing I'm going to change is my choice of hook. I've had a couple of larger fish bend the fine wire almost straight out on that first teeth gritting run. Awesome little fly!

+charles mc farlane Hi Charles, yeah it's a great little fly and very easy to change colour and weight to suit your area. I am slowly switching to all Gamakatsu for my general SW hooks, but I rarely use the B10 S for anything that really pulls. Tight lines

honestly it looks like if i tied it in a crawfish orange kind of colour and put it in front of a carp it wouldn't get turned down either. i'll be putting a few in my box this weekend for sure
