Boney M. - Nightflight To Venus + Rasputin (second German pressing = second version)

Here are the first two tracks from what I consider one of the best pop music albums ever produced (released in 1978). The following information explaining the particular situation with this LP is taken from the Discogs website:
Four versions are known to exist of this album content-wise, with varying track durations. The versions can be identified by the length of the first two tracks, "Nightflight To Venus" and "Rasputin", which are the only tracks with a different duration on each version. Both tracks form a medley, and the length of the medley obviously varies between the versions. On the first version, "Nightflight To Venus" is 7 minutes 9 seconds (medley 13m 37s), on the second 5m 55s (medley 11m 58s), on the third 4m 58s (medley 10m 48s), and on the fourth 4m 46s (medley 10m 36s).
Note: The durations above refer to the actual length, which can vary greatly from what's printed on the sleeve or label.
The fourth version, considered the 'final' or 'finished' version, is the most common one and it appears on most copies. All official CD's also contain the fourth version. All four versions are known to exist on the original German Hansa label LP's only, but the odd copy on a non-Hansa label may also contain a version other than #4. Some cassettes are also known to contain a version other than #4.
As of 2019, the first German pressing / version of this album, which features an instrumental interlude on "Rasputin" that was completely removed from the following versions, seems unobtainable in physical form (but still haven't completely lost hope).

Да уж, нам такая пластинка и не снилась, переписывали записи, доставали как могли.... В 1978 впервые услышала и все! Понеслось... Кто то принес старенький кассетник с записями, а может на катушке было..., уже не помню...До бесконечности ждали Мелодии и ритмы зарубежной эстрады, вдруг покажут....Бони М прямо как диско-луч в нашу жизнь вошел. Как раз появились уже дискотеки с цветомузыкой, с шариком. Как мы отрывались! На школьном вечере 1980г. директор школы сказал, чтобы мы осторожнее прыгали под песню "Распутин", резонанс вдруг получится и этажное перекрытие провалится😂, шутил конечно, мы даже опасались...Но самая моя любимая песня " Never change the lovers in the midlle of the night" , вообще Бони М это фантастическая группа❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉💫💫💫💥💥💥💥💥💫💫💫🥳🥳🥳🥳

Thanks for the attention to detail in your description. I am a man in his late 40s whose parents often played a cassette copy of this album which one of our family friends made for them. As a three or four year old the opening track was super exciting and it made an imprint on my brain which has caused me a certain amount of confusion as an adult who went searching for a copy of his own much later in life. No matter how distant my first memories have become I always knew there was something missing on the CD copy I used to own and various other sources I encountered as an adult. I now understand that the family friend who made that cassette copy for my folks owned a first pressing copy and I wasn't imagining things. I knew there had to be something going on. I couldn't see how I could accidentally remember something as awesome as the first version! Here's a link to it I just found now I know what I've looking for..... Thank you for your comment! I'm glad I helped. I'd really love to have a first pressing of this LP, which I consider one of the best pop music productions from the seventies. The thing is, when I published this video, copies of the first pressing were impossible to find. Now they have showed up, but at crazy prices. I think the overall price raise on the vinyl record market has a lot to do with that.

@@kurtsmoker It wasn't exactly the band but Frank Farian, the producer. To me, he's a genius at producing pop music albums, but he has some sort of issues. His penchant for faking the identities of the singers in his productions is a proof of this. Milli Vanilli is the most famous example, and actually he's Boney M.'s male voice in the albums - not Bobby Farrell. And yes, this is a terrific album opener. Actually, I think this album isn't more famous just because Boney M. wasn't as successful in the US as it was in Europe and Latin America. But as I say in the video description, I consider "Nightflight to Venus" one of the best pop music productions ever.

Hola Álvaro: Has entrado en las partes hondas de la música Disco. La era Disco que se ve/escucha en la película de "Saturday Night Fever" era la versión más light, amistosa y de acceso a los neófitos, posers y wannabe de ser un "fever" en la era. Por cierto, como expliqué en mi video de KJEE, un tema grandioso, en los lados C y D, pero la intención del film SNF era acabar, por no decir destruir la era, haciéndole fuertes críticas al elemento que la consumía. Para ellos los Fevers eran unos Jerks! En este terreno, aquí es en donde entran estas piezas de largo desarrollo, amparados en lo que llamaron el Eurodisco. Aquí es, a quienes consumían este trabajo los que podríamos llamar los fans Hardcores de la era DISCO. No tengo parámetros más justos para comparar este audio en particular, pero para mi, suena fenomenal, :P El creador de este grupo es el mismo de los Milli Vanilli, este señor, al igual que Dan Kirshner, estaba convencido de que las figuras en la musica pop debe ser personas físicamente atractivas. Los atractivos, son los que deben estar al frente, en cambio los más gordos, feos y viejos, deben estar detrás del telón ocultos en donde no se les vea. Realmente eso desdice mucho de la industria de la música Pop. Caramba, este tema si que merece uno de mis famosos INTROS porque para mi es muy criticable que se haya promovido esa mitología de que solo los más jóvenes o más bonitos pueden estar parados en un escenario haciendo música. Esas frivolidades dañan el concepto de hacer música POP. Lo grande es que a este tipo casi lo queman en la hoguera, pero ahora con la tecnología tenemos a montones de figuras carentes del más absoluto talento haciéndose pasar por músicos, el más grande FARSANTE de todos se llama Jay Z. Lo peor del caso es que ese ladronazo tiene 21 grammys, lo mismo va para su esposa que su único y verdadero talento son sus perfectos glúteos. Los cuales no les van a durar por mucho tiempo... Es una lástima que Frank Farian, productor de Boney M., Eruption y Milli Vanilli entre otros, haya tenido esa política de la que hablas porque, independientemente de eso, lo considero uno de los más grandes productores de música pop. Su trabajo me parece fenomenal (por cierto, él era la voz masculina líder en los discos de Boney M.). Y de pronto a muchos les parezca exagerada mi afirmación, pero sostengo con firmeza a 41 años de su lanzamiento que este álbum sigue pareciéndome una de las mejores producciones de música pop de la historia. Absolutamente nada que ver con el montón de basura que sacan al mercado en la actualidad. PERO ERA TALENTOSO, yo creo quienes deben estar al frente son los talentosos, no los "bonitillos" o "atractivos". Ahora tenemos saturado el medio de posers, wannabe, mediocres y FARSANTES. Es cuestion de muy poco tiempo para que la tecnologia tenga idolos generados 100% por graficas de realidad virtual. Tal vez puedas crearte a una muñeca virtual de forma humana que goce de la juventud eterna o el look mas descabellado que "atraiga a los jóvenes". NO es el look, tampoco es la tecnología. Lo que hace posible que canciones o mas bien Suit como este logren trascender en el tiempo es la INVENTIVA Y TALENTO. -Sin el factor HUMANO nunca sera posible crear las obras maestras, las máquinas solo pueden REPLICAR O REPETIR, pero nunca crear desde CERO lo que el espiritu humano produce. Lo otro, ya veremos, tengo un montón de cosas pendientes, ni siquiera he podido hacer un video sorpresa el cual tengo esperando en el tintero, je, je, je, je. I just picked up a US copy on Sire! Label says 4:56/5:50, actual time is within a few seconds of that, with the whole medley coming in at 10:47, so I guess it's a 3rd version. I really still want to hear a first version!!

Hey Mike! I hope the copy you got is NOT the one with cat. # SRK 6062 (side A runout: SRK-6062-WW.1; side B runout: SRK-2-6062-WW1). I have it and let me tell you with all the due respect (but without euphemisms): It sounds HORRIBLE. I greatly respect the quality of US-made products, but I always scratch my head wondering why they did this atrocity. I was convinced that such low-grade product could only be made in my country. @@NothingLikeVinyl My friend, No way I would let this spoil my enthusiasm - I've always been somewhat obsessed with sound quality, and now having heard what your pressing sounds like, I would have done the exact same thing. The funny thing is, I don't REMEMBER that comparison video on your original channel, but I had it in the back of my head that the sound quality was going to be pretty poor on the Sire pressing - so I was actually pleasantly surprised. Now, gonna check the info on my copy. Catalog number: SRK 6062, Runout Side 1: LRK - 1 - 6062 - LW2 - * (stamped) STERLING Runout Side 2: LRK - 2 - 6062 - LW2 - * So no Sterling on Side 2, but it sounds like the LW2 is they key differentiator from your WW1. Looking at Discogs, nobody had logged the runout for the Sire pressing yet, so I don't even have anything else to compare. But this has been a fascinating exercise, how crazy that two people half a world apart from each other would wind up with two records that look the same but sound so drastically different! I made a 96k/24-bit rip of "Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night" with my Ortofon Stylus 30 (well, LP Gear version of that), if you'd be interested in hearing it!
