Lyrics:
They rode in the morning
Casablanca to the west
On the Atlas Mountain foothills leading down to Marakesh
For Mohammed and Morocco
We had taken up our guns
For the ashes of our fathers and the children of our sons.
For the ashes of our fathers and the children of our sons.
In the dry winds of summer
They were sharpening the blades.
They were riding to act upon the promise we had made.
With the fist and the dagger
With the rifle and the lance
We will suffer no intrusion from the Infidels of France.
We will suffer no intrusion from the Infidels of France.
Ride, ride, ride, ride to Agadir.
Ride, ride, ride, ride to Agadir.
They could wait no more
In the burning sands on the ride to Agadir.
Ride, ride, ride, ride to Agadir.
Like the dogs of war
For the future of this land on the ride to Agadir.
Ride, ride, ride, ride to Agadir.
Though they were waiting
And they were fifty to our ten
They were easily outnumbered by a smaller force of men.
As the darkness was falling
They were soon to realize
We were going to relieve them of their God-Forsaken lives.
We were going to relieve them of their God-Forsaken lives.
They could wait no more
In the burning sands on the ride to Agadir.
Ride, ride, ride, ride to Agadir.
Like the dogs of war
For the future of this land on the ride to Agadir.
Ride, ride, ride, ride to Agadir.
They rode in the morning
Casablanca to the west
On the Atlas Mountain foothills leading down to Marakesh
For Mohammed and Morocco
We had taken up our guns
For the ashes of our fathers and the children of our sons.
For the ashes of our fathers and the children of our sons.

I was born and raised in india. Boney M used to be - I think they still are - very popular when I was growing up. I grew up listening and loving them Listened to this song a million times. Although I migrated to united States later on, I continued listening to them regularly. To my surprise nobody in US had even heard about the band Till this week I never quitr understood the meaning of the lines - and never bothered to find out - song was sooo melodious and sufficient for me Currently we are visiting morocco and came across all the places mentioned in the song including Agadir. Even my Moroccan car driver was surprised to hear an old song about his City. None of the other people I came across in morocco had heard about this song either. Although I now know the lyrics - thanks to Google- I still do not know, if it is alluding to any real events ( Google pulled up nothing regarding the context of the lyrics) Does anyone know if Mike Butt ( the while British guy who wrote the original lyrics ) meant to describe any real battles or incidents ?

@sabineb.5616
@sabineb.5616 Жыл бұрын
@@CharlesYuditsky, it's a matter of personal preferences 😀 Since I am German, I might have some prejudices against Boney M. You probably know that the group started out as nothing more than good looking black models who were cast by the German pop singer and producer Frank Farian, who did the first recordings all by himself in his studio. At that time Boney M. was just Frank Farian's alter ego! And when the band was cast by Farian, some members lip synched - a bit like Frank Farian's other infamous group Milli Vanilli 😉 But unlike Milli Vanilli, who never recovered from the lip synching scandal, Boney M. never had a "dirty" secret, because it was always known that some members only danced and moved their lips when Boney M. performed live. And the group managed to get a few members who didn't just look good, but who really could sing very well 😀 Anyway, concerning Boney M. I still have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth because IMO Frank Farian, who wasn't sexy or charismatic, "blaxploited" the Afro-Carribean band members and their music and culture in order to sell his own music under another name. I should clarify that I don't hold it against Farian, that he used elements of Afro-Carribean and American gospel music! I think that today's wholesale condamnation of cultural appropriation goes too far and stifles artistic creativity. But Farian exploited the great looks and dancing abilities of the band members without reckognizing them as artists.

@@misterofsound1756 : Which really is a terrible shortcoming of Frank Farian, who also treated the members of Boney M very unkindly. Marcia Barrett said to this subject: In the beginning, working with Frank Farian was very good. Frank finished the music first, then Liz and I did the vocals. In the studio, he always made sure I got my champagne and Liz got her cognac. However, the band's everyday life was quite stressful: We toured almost non-stop and were already recording the next album at the same time. We were also omnipresent on TV shows and at press conferences. Frank wanted to get the maximum out of us.

Jatinder Singh Narula The musicality is awsome.. and a great thing of its time.. but the lyrics may well be annoying for some. Even the Chinese may one day feel the same anoyance.. really.. and guess the number of dislikes.. and Indian Muslims be added.. 1.700.000.000 available instantly.. Arabs, Africans, Turks.. .. Ashes..: In western and Islamic world ash is of and for hell unlike Indian notion. That is a problem for many.
