CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway) and Clyde Barrow (Warren Beatty) show compassion to a farmer who lost his property to the banks.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based loosely on the true exploits of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker during the 30s, the film begins as Clyde (Beatty) tries to steal the car of Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway)'s mother. Bonnie is excited by Clyde's outlaw demeanor, and he further stimulates her by robbing a store in her presence. Clyde steals a car, with Bonnie in tow, and their legendary crime spree begins. The two move from town to town, pulling off small heists, until they join up with Clyde's brother Buck (Gene Hackman), his shrill wife Blanche (Estelle Parsons), and a slow-witted gas station attendant named C.W. Moss (Michael J. Pollard). The new gang robs a bank and Clyde is soon painted in the press as a Depression-era Robin Hood when he allows one bank customer to hold onto his money. Soon the police are on the gang's trail and they are constantly on the run, even kidnapping a Texas Ranger (Denver Pyle) and setting him adrift on a raft, handcuffed, after he spits in Bonnie's face when she kisses him. That same ranger leads a later raid on the gang that leaves Buck dying, Blanche captured, and both Clyde and Bonnie injured. The ever-loyal C.W. takes them to his father's house. C.W.'s father disproves his son's affiliation with gangsters and enters a plea bargain with the Texas Rangers. A trap is set that ends in one of the bloodiest death scenes in cinematic history.

Fine comment! The filmmakers. A whole generation. And I. Bur even more so, there are references to the era as presented in "I'm a fugitive from a chain-gang" et al. Some of the extras in this film had actually met Bonnie and Clyde, and surely the Dust Bowl-days". Some "were robbed by them, were NOT robbed by them, but each seemed to have their own recollection of Bonnie and Clyde. When you look at the faces - this farmer, he KNOWS what's in store for the couple - it is more than "mere" acting...

One of the things I noticed was that the old farmer asked Bonnie and Clyde: "Ya'll mind?" It was customary to ask a white person - or couple as it were, in the case here - if they minded being introduced to a black fellow(Davis). It was if they had to asked AHEAD OF TIME if it was OK for a black to come into their presence! Times sure have changed.

After listening to audio of the real Blanche Barrow, I think this film didn't quite portray the deep Texas accents the gang had. But to be honest, Blanche's drawl was so thick I had trouble understanding what she was saying.

Incidentally, a few years ago, I saw a college production of the Broadway musical *Bonnie & Clyde* (not based on this movie) and the actor playing Clyde was drop-dead gorgeous: handsome face/build (he was in just his skivvies in some scenes) and eyes you could still tell from a distance were light-colored. But the killer was his voice! Needless to say, many of us were swooning (perhaps even lusting) for him throughout. 😂

That was kind of the point. Having the villains be romanticized as rebellious youth's fighting the system. Perfect contrast for the late 1960s era.. this movie broke ground on what has been seen before but not like this before. Famous anti hero films came from the success of this project and as you can see. Holds pretty well still today.

I've studied the pair for over 20 years, and I gotta say the film was pretty factual. Sure, they condensed the timeline and omitted certain people/events and utilized composite characters, but all biopics do that for time purposes. That said, the movie does tend to romanticize their misdeeds.
