Good for you, Ms. Garmus! And those 98 denials are feeling stupid now

I doubt it, geisala. its been a long established fact that nobody wants to learn about the history of women.(except women, who used to moan how nobody wrote our stories [meaning men].😁 if her book was previewed at publishers by young women, they probably wouldn't find them at all believable. the 99th time was probably some old gal who said "hey, look, a book that all the old gals will want to read." And some man probably said "boomer babes? hey we can make money on that." (meaning there's a lot of us still alive and some of the younger ones actually got "real" jobs and have money and the rest of us will buy w SS.)😁

love her book cover. thanks for telling our story. when i was 5 yrs old (a brainiac who was born reading a book) and ppl asked me what i was going to be when i grew up (a silly question bc, unless you had a wealthy and very progressive dad, you were going to be a mom, shop girl, or office girl), i said "im going to be a scientist." whereupon the questioner laughed at me and said "oh honey, only boys are scientists." my mom would get mad at me and tell me to stop saying that as it was embarrassing and ppl thought she had a stupid kid. but, bc i was born reading and lived 4 houses from the library, i already knew about madame curie and thought grownups werent very smart bc a 5 yr old knew something they didnt. i grew up not putting much stock in what grown ppl said and researching everything bc i had to learn on my own so as not to be another stupid grownup when i grew up!😅 wish i had written this book, as it sounds like i had certainly lived it. all us girls from the baby boom will relate, but it got me thinking, how many of us wanted to be scientists? how many of us finally got to go to college and study science eventually (mostly post vietnam when our husbands were attending and tuition was lowered bc every boomer was applying and the women's movement was starting), and how many from that era actually got to work in science (beyond filing papers in the basement of NASA)? maybe that will be my next book.☮❤🙋

I'm wondering - did you go on to have a career in science (it sounds like you did, but I'm not white clear.) Kudos to you for defying society's ridiculous assumptions.
