Absolutely no one has more class than Bonnie, never upstaging, always giving the spotlight to others, yet still expertly directing her band and keeping everyone together. All her live performances are like this, she promotes who ever is up there with her. Such a lady!

Of course, she owes a lot (actually 100%) to black music and she's not only a great musician but also a humble human being unlike some (maybe many) white musicians.

Charles Brown was a horse-racetrack buddy of mine in his final years. Sweetest, kindest man I ever knew. He told me about this tour, but that was years before youtube. I didn't stumble across this video until 2022.

I just found this video. Charles Brown is the first cousin of my father. I got a chance to meet him at the Arena Theater in Houston in 1986. I last talked to him on the phone while he was in the hospital before he passed in California.

Damn! I love Bonnie. Super talented, sophisticated lady! An ageless performer. She shares her stage with some truly great musicians with the ease of a backyard jam. This is probably one of my favorites here. Miss Ruth, in my opinion, never lost a beat during her long career and in fact sounded so much better in her older years. She had a rich, strong voice that blows me away. Charles Brown is amazing on the piano as well as vocals.

Bonnie also has a heart of gold she has fought for and supported black artists for decades this tour was right after Bonnie pulled an upset at the Grammys and finally got her long overdue fame look who she brought with her Bonnie is the daughter of the blues she has worked with great blues artists and learned and like a good daughter she takes care of family the way she did Charles and Ruth they both got a lot of work after touring with her!!!

@oldmule10 The skipping could be internet connection , at the bottom of the screen there is a red line on top of a pink line moving from left to right , if the red line catches up to the pink line the video stops. Your computer is processing the info faster than the web is feeding it to your comp , heavy traffic in your area or multiple comps sharing a web connection can cause this. The video is playing fine for me.

people, in general, think that "popular music" is something that came to be, a million yrs ago. And conventional curiosity, says that the architects of the genre, died in the 1800s or something crazy, like that. And that is so NOT the truth. Is Ruth Brown the woman that created 'pop music'?...no, she's not...not by herself. But she is among, barely a handful of folks who did....and she is the starting point, for the traditional, female r&b and pop singer. She contributed vocal talent, that was in turn, inherited by Aretha and Dionne and Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight and Tina Turner and Etta...those may just seem like names on a piece of paper. But we're talking about a group of 'divas' that made a PROFOUND impact on what we know as 'popular music', which was born out of black gospel, the blues, jazz and 'race music'. But for Ruth Brown, those other divas are not accepted by mainstream music...which happens to be, pop music. Ruth Brown, was a music GIANT...just as relevant as Bessie Smith, Sarah Vaughn, Ella F, Billie Holliday and Dinah Washington.
