Bono isn’t saying “all religions are the same there’s heaps of ways to God” he’s saying that everyone regardless of their beliefs, has the ability to live alongside one another with love and respect. He doesn’t just throw around scripture for the sake of it - he’s said in interviews that he wakes up around 6am to just sit with God and be in his presence. His conversation with Eugene Peterson reflecting on the Psalms is absolutely brilliant. A lot of celebs are all talk and no action when it comes to faith, but Bono isn’t. Of course he’s made mistakes because he’s a human like the rest of us, and he’s the first to admit that too. I wish people would stop judging out of context. He’s opened a whole new area for Christian art and music in this world. The guy deserves a high-five at the least 🤣

Bono, there is a huge difference in reading scriptures from time to time, and studying the Word toshow yourself to be approved. If you studied, you would find that we cannot coexist. Jesus was not this hippy peace and love character. He said I come not to bring peace, but a sword. The sword divides and separates the sheep from the goats.

First off, coexist that Bono was promoting was living peaceably among men. He comes from a country that was torn apart by war and violence. He is calling for Christians, Jews and Muslims to live peaceably among each other. This is a biblical desire. After all, we are told that "as much as it depends upon us, live at peace with all men." This doesn't mean we agree with them on everything, or that we ignore their errors. I have read, listened to and watched Bono over the past 20 years. Not once have I ever heard him say that there is any way to God except through Jesus Christ. This show makes an assumption that Bono meant more than what he says he means by coexist.

It is interesting to see Joni Eareckson. I read her book 15 years ago at the begging of my faith. Her books stayed close to my heart. I can still remember the images in my mind that I created while I was reading her book how it should all look. It's good to know that she is keeping the good race in faith and still is involved in to the Kingdom of God. Bless to you all!

The reason why Bono believes in co exist and all religions are compatible is because he doesn't want to offend anyone because they won't worship him anymore. I believe Bono likes to be praised and worshipped on stage and by others. He loves the world and the praise of the world instead of the praise of God. No mystery there. Whoever wants to be a friend of the world is an enemy of God.

Over the years I have seen or heard her in a variety of different venues and she has always been beaming with an encouraging attitude but today watching her she looked so beautiful, cheerful and joyful. I'm not going to get into the "Is Bono saved or not?" argument, because well, you are in dangerous territory. Just pray for him that he does come to a deeper understanding of God and do that from a humble rather than arrogant place. Why I did want to comment was Ray mentioning that Bono used the f-word as if that meant he isn't saved. How ludicrous! First of all, sanctification is a life long thing, secondly, as a fellow Irish man, I can tell you that word does not carry the same weight it does over in the USA and while praise God, He has helped my own tongue on that front, I know from reading the scriptures that God wasn't speaking primarily of 4 letter words but of words that are filled with hate and gossip and slander and malice etc etc.

I agree to some of your points! Just today, I had a moment of anger and used several curse words in succession. I quickly regretted it and repented of it. I think Ray is a fruit picker of the highest sort though because he picked that 'fruit' of Bono out quickly lol. Yes, it is bad fruit to use curse words because curse words by nature are just part of the old man that needs to be put away. I forgive Bono if he has used curse words before and I pray that he won't in the future especially in the public now that it is very well known that he has identified with Christ (he prays to Christ and understands God through Christ which is terrific and should be encouraged). I wish Ray would have spent some time at least going over a few things that Bono has done right: a long faithful marriage, poverty help, charity funds, etc. I mean, Bono is using some of his money to help out which I would consider 'fruit' which is faith in action. It doesn't save you but it shows you do have faith and you want to serve man. There ARE some unsettling things Bono has supported and said, but rather than judge and condemn him harshly, I am going to pray for him and hope he continues in sanctification. If he is truly an anti-Christ or false prophet or wolf in sheep's clothing, time and God will eventually out him. But Christians are far from perfect. I would have to throw out all the good writings of Martin Luther if I applied the same logic to Bono. Martin Luther wrote some damning things against Jews but most Protestants give him a pass and are quick to judge Bono harshly. Some of my greatest Biblical heroes were deeply flawed men and women: David, Moses, Peter, Paul, Abraham, and on and on and on. Apart from Christ, who is God, no one is perfect!!! I would have to throw out all the Psalms because David committed Adultery and murder and yet, there they are, in God's Word. King David's fruit was the Psalms, yet I don't cast David aside. The Bible even says that David was after God's own heart. For me, I will judge for myself with discernment the actions and words of Bono and I will pray for him if he strays a bit and if he departs completely from Jesus Christ and finally rejects him then I will have no choice but to cut ties with U2 and Bono and his works and words. Until then, I will support him through prayer from time to time and maybe, if I am deeply concerned, I will write him a letter. Whether or not he reads it is in God's hands. You can tell I really love Bono and U2. I can't give up on Bono or U2 because they were such a huge part of my life growing up and they got me through some depressing times and while the lyrics weren't specifically about Jesus or God, they weren't completely evil either. But yes, we Christian sheep do need to be careful, but we should at least try to judge for ourselves righteously and not condemn others. I would have to throw out a lot of the Bible because of the 'fruit' and actions of many of its flawed characters. But that is what I love about the Bible, it is REAL and speaks to real, flawed humans, and we can be redeemed which is the Gospel message throughout the Old and New Testament. I can see King David's 'fruit' (adultery and murder) and make a judgement call (not judging David himself) and decide not to choose what he did. In that way, I can learn from these flawed characters in the Bible yet still have faith that they still made it to heaven even with all of their mistakes. The key is to try and STOP continuing to make mistakes and sin all the time, there needs to be sinless direction not sinless perfection. Thank God for the sacrifice of Christ or else no man will see God face to face.

I'm not sure if people noticed about Bono's song, but when he was merging the "relation" between Jesus and Mohammed, big critical error on his part, he reminded me about George Harrison's song "My Sweet Lord." If you listen to the lyrics of his song, he's merging two forms of beliefs without the individual realizing it. At the beginning of the song: My sweet Lord (Hallelujah) My Lord (Hallelujah) My my my Lord (Hallelujah) (NOTE: The words Lord and Hallelujah is rooted in Scripture giving praises to the Triune GOD! "Words of comfort and ease..." The only comfort and ease I received was the personal story and proclamation of faith from Bono. Also, the man totally contradicted himself in saying that Bono shows no fruit and then mentioning his humanitarian aid and relief work. Also, what is fruit if sharing your faith with millions on KZbin isn't? If I will be judged by the standard of Mr. Comfort, I'm afraid that I'm out of luck. I am thankful for Bono as well as Ray Comfort's ministry. I don't mean to point fingers at anyone, I just want to share grace and love to everyone.

I don’t understand what all the Christian controversy is based on what Bono said in the opening clip. He prays to Christ, believes he is the Messiah, and his relationship with God is through Christ. He said all the right things. I am a Christian and I have followed Bono for 30 years. I truly believe that God put Bono on this planet to do more than sing. His work on the One campaign to save dying people in Africa is very commendable and follows the path of Jesus. His fight against racism and equality for all brings people together. His talking about coexisting, different religions is a great start to stop the wars and love one another. As Jesus commanded us to do. Allow the Holy Spirit to fill others hearts, but is starts with love.

I haven't watched all of this yet, but I just wanted to say a few things here and I hope that I am not being a heretic! So here goes: I enjoy Bono and U2 and listen from time to time their songs. Yes, there are mainly secular, but I currently haven't found any truly damning lyrics (so far). If the Holy Spirit convicts me not to listen to their music anymore, then I wont even if it becomes extremely hard to do so. I grew up listening to U2 and was very passionate about them, my favorite album of theirs was The Joshua Tree. I mainly fell in love with their sound and instrumentations and not really their lyrics because the lyrics were kind of vague. Anyways, I want to give Bono the benefit of the doubt here as far as if he is a true Christian or not. In the early part of this video, he did make a profession of faith that Jesus was the Son of God and divine (if I am not mistaken). Yes, he has said some unsettling things but if I looked back in my life, even after I got 'born again', I too would be ashamed. I am hoping and praying that Bono goes further towards Christ and not backwards, especially during times of deep stress and possible Rockstar narcissism. I think the Apostle Paul did rebuke many in the early church for their 'weak' faith and he wanted them grow into maturity. Apostle Paul didn't give up on them though and while he rebuked them gently, he also said they were brothers and that he expected good things from him. When U2 started the 'coexist' banner during one of their concerts, I don't think that he was saying they need to be combined in one religion. I got the impression that he just wanted them to try and peacefully 'coexist' because the reality in the world today is that many nations are pluralistic in nature when it comes to religion and rather than resorting to violence to 'convert' others, Christians do need to try and love their neighbor as much as possible yet still not join in what they do. There are plenty of cities in the USA where there resides a Mosque, Synagogue, and a Christian Church on the same street, so I think that that is what Bono was trying to say with the 'coexist' stuff. I am not sure on that though, I could be wrong. I believe Bono and his bandmates HAVE shown fruit with their good deeds in humanitarian issues, something Jesus would definitely approve of. His ONE campaign tries to stamp out poverty, etc. Again, I see that as visible 'fruit' which is faith in action (see the book of James, etc). No, your good deeds cant get you into heaven that is true. NOW, Bono says some stupid things, but he is a Rockstar with tons of pressure and I am sure he might be tempted to say things to please both the secular and the sacred. I don't know of his position on abortion, so I won't go there. So, right now at his present time, I am going to consider Bono a brother and pray for him. That may change if he departs from the faith in time (I would still pray for him!). Lord only knows one's heart and I pray and hope that Bono truly is saved and born again and hopefully he WILL bear more fruit later on not just deeds but better edifying words. But if he is a brother in Christ, and I currently give him the benefit of the doubt here, then I will pray for him and his family because superstardom is a HUGE temptation. Also, I won't recommend his music to fellow Christians for worship music, but there are some songs that I do like (a guilty pleasure). But if the Holy Spirit does lead me to avoid U2 and Bono, then I will. It may be hard, but it can be done! But I want to be slow to judge a person who does make a confession because it has been said that the Christian army is the only army that shoots its wounded and I don't want to reject Bono or U2 right off the bat because of something weird they said. Time and the Holy Spirit will tell, so I will keep my gun holstered for now :)

Bless you for this! I am with you. I’m tired of believers picking apart everything that a celebrity says to disprove their faith. If Bono is called to be a light in a place as dark as the music industry he will probably do a lot of things we don’t understand or agree with but there is and has been fruit. Also we have to know these celebrities personally or have a huge show of bad fruit before we say there is no good fruit. Look at his life as one of the worlds biggest rock stars and the worst thing you can say is that he talks too much about God loving all His children and he drops F bombs which don’t hold the same weight for Irishman as it does us in the states. Ask his wife, his children, his friends...We’ve watched this man grow up before our eyes and maybe make some mistakes but let’s remember that how we judge others including him and other celebrities, is how we will be judged. That coexist video was not saying it’s all one God but all children of God which is true. I don’t agree with his theology on all things I’m sure, but keep in mind that we have the advantage of sitting on the sidelines and judging someone from snippets of their life.

Here's a quote from CNN Wire: " In July 2005, during a concert in Berlin, Bono denounced Islamic extremists who had recently detonated bombs across London, killing 52 people and wounding hundreds. He donned a headband bearing the word "Coexist," which incorporated a Christian cross, a Star of David, and an Islamic crescent. "Jesus, Jew, Mohammad, it's true. I will never forget seeing U2 at Massey Hall in Toronto back in late 1984 as they began their Unforgettable Fire tour. They were back months later playing Maple Leaf Gardens! I wasn't a Christian at the time (that would take over 20 more years) but I remember the distinct feeling I had just experienced something "spiritual" at that concert. It still stands as my favourite. Long after the band left the stage many of us were still singing "I will sing, sing a new song" from the song 40 as we spilled out onto Shuter and Yonge Street. I love Bono's honesty about his Christian journey. It certainly can't be easy balancing rock star status with being a disciple of the Word. He's far from perfect... but aren't we all.

Plus, much of the "fruit" we produce can be spiritual and I would think the people closest to us (not the distant world and what we see or hear on media) would experience that first and to a much greater degree.

This is the kind of nonsense that really turns people off to Christianity. First and foremost Bono is not a theologian, but an entertainer. Praise God that someone who is as popular as he is is talking about Jesus and confirming His deity. Obviously Bono has read some C.S. Lewis. with reference to Jesus either being who He is or is a nut. The fact that Bono occasionally "drops the F bomb" (what are you guys, in kindergarten?) so what? Although profanity doesn't sound good, who cares? The guy is talking about Christ and confirming He rose from the dead. Finally with respect to Muslims and Jews. Ray and brothers (and sisters) in our Lord ~ Don't even know if you read comments, especially on year old videos, but figure I'll leave one anyway...why not? I don't know nor not sure how I missed this episode before, as I have seen so very many and love the 'Comfort Zone' and all of the guys on the show. (Though partial to Mark Spence - he reminds me of a younger version of my dad who's now with the Lord. His looks, mannerisms, love for the Lord, so many things. My dad lacked the Bible knowledge - worked 3 jobs then became blind from Diabetes (pre- Bible on Audio Books far as we know) but my dad had the heart knowledge of the Lord. (Hey, he saved me!) Anyway... I chose to watch this video especially this morning, thinking I saw it before and just wanted to see (again) what Bono had to say per the headline of the video, being the 'colorful character' that he is. I've heard him say outrageous things about the Lord before. But THEN!! Such joy when I was surprised when you introduced our gorgeous, beautiful hearted sister in the Lord, Joni Erickson Tada, was just the *most awesome* surprise! I've been disabled for 17 years. I knew Christ before my disabilities, but I didn't KNOW Christ until these illnesses became so painful I could hardly bear it. People like my family had no idea what to do, how to help me. Doctors shuffled me around and had another pill. BUT... Jesus!! So, although I have known about Joni for years, I never really have KNOWN about Joni and her ministry. I even thought her name was pronounced as 'Joanie' rather than as Jonny.' Seeing and hearing her, and her video, how I wish something was nearby - meaning one of her camps, her ministries. I would love to volunteer and help those who are disabled worse than I am. She's absolutely right about approaching us, we who are disabled. I know that for myself, that I feel a lot worse being ignored than I do when I am at least approached and asked my opinion on something, or about the Lord, or even about current events and things in the news. Or just about anything! Folks, just don't be 'afraid' of us. A wheelchair shouldn't intimidate a well/whole person. We're the same as you are inside, and it's only a tool used for us to sit in when our legs don't work correctly. A chair is in no way a part of us. Like many other helpers in life, it's but a tool to get us around when our legs won't, simple as that. (I'm yet only part-time in my own.) I'd also like to one day be able to get out there to try open air preaching. I honestly don't feel I could do it alone, however, I also feel like I am without much fruit being homebound rather than out in the world "planting seeds" but my Jesus understands me. He must know that witnessing online is a whole other ballgame especially with so many unbelievers who mock we who believe and all we say and do. It's easy for them to do so behind a screen and a made up name. It's REALLY hard when you feel that you have finally touched a heart, and an unbeliever comes into the online conversation putting their seeds of doubt in the person's heart who had JUST shown a little promise of coming to desire to know the Lord. The work of the Lord is certainly not for the faint of heart - well, actually, I SHOULD say that it's not for those without boldness, without being SURE of who you are in Christ which will at least *most* always give you the ability to fight off the "fiery darts" of the enemy. I know, because I have moments when I have felt defeated and I have given in to it. Just exactly what Satan *wants* us to do! With Jesus though, there is "NO compromise!* Not at all - *No, not EVER, never!* God bless you ALL who read this 'novelette' of what's on my heart this morning, and may the Lord's goodness shine upon each of you in some very real way, whether big or small, as you simply just live and be on this beautiful, sunny day. Praises to You and all praises and glory be to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Jesus, thank You for just loving me, and for making me Your own! (Apologies for length - a "by-product" of too much time spent alone. Let's make some corrections. First of all, Bono is not a professing pastor. He has been involved with evangelical forms of Christianity since his youth. Throughout the decades, he has generally represented faith well and correctly in addition to trying to end world poverty and stop the aids crisis in Africa. Better fruit than most people I have seen. The "coexist" stuff occurred on one tour and never returned. Was it the right message? No. Could he be confused about that? Sure. Does that change the previous 40 years? No. None of us are perfect. There were things I believed five years ago that now I have a deeper understanding of through reading His Word. We really need to be careful of condemning someone, who mind you is again not a Christian leader, just because he may be confused about something theologically. For the record, Bono has said before that Christians should not look to him as a model. He openly confessed his propensity for not being able to control his tongue and profanity. He saw that as an area he needs work in obviously. Lastly, how far off was Bono? Should we not strive to coexist while on this planet? We are called to spread the gospel, not kill people who disagree with us. Muslims believe Abraham was a prophet, Jews and Christians believe they are descendants. The gift of salvation is open to all. Remember, he was speaking to an audience of largely unbelievers, about not hating each other. He was not teaching Sunday school. Just saying. I have to add to my previous comment. I cannot let this go, because this attitude hurts the Christian cause so much. In 2 Corth. ll:4 it says that even if someone DOES come preaching "another Jesus", bear with him. Anytime the name of Jesus is mentioned, Jesus is praised. in I Corth. 12:3 it says " No one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit". I john 4:2 says "By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God." How do YOU get to sit there an determine whether or not someone is a Christian when they plainly show they have the Spirit of God according to the Bible. Who put YOU in charge? This is a judgment left for God alone. Oh, you can say "no fruit". But unless you know what that persons's daily life is, you have no idea if there's fruit. How well do you know Kris Kristopherson? If our path or past is/was the measure for salvation, then none are worthy. Coexist? "Be ye in the world, but not of the world", as most who have been "called" by the Spirit would be also drawn to gain a true knowledge and understanding of the Word of GOD. If Bono has been saved by Grace, then his salvation comes from GOD, not man believes it to be. Some trees take years before they show 'true' fruit.

Well it is simple. In the past the elders of a society decided how the community was to live and behave. There are examples where the leaders have decided what is right and wrong. Sometimes these leaders have claimed it is a gods will they are promoting to give it more gravitas. Then as time goes by we have societal laws not claiming any god given authority and generally based on consensus and accepted by society at large. Its not a difficult concept. All laws are man made.

Thanks for the answers. Two questions this time: 1. Can you define 'society', as it is a very ambiguous term yet is the crux for your belief. For example, is it an ethnic group, a city/state, a country, or all of humanity, etc? 2. What if society at large decided rape was morally acceptable? Would you agree with that consensus or fight against it?

Christ is the only way but for people of good will who are faithful to conscience and truly love with their heart . Christ is a merciful saviour . God saves . Gods ways are not our ways . He is a perfect expert in salvation . He is absolute power . Do not be afraid .

Our team were out Evangelising on Friday night and I came across a guy who believed that Jesus was the Son of God. Believes that the Bible is the word of God, but doesn't believe that Jesus is the only way to God. We got in to the law and he said it didn't matter and that he was "connected to god" in a different way, that he had a spiritual connection with him, that there are more ways to God than through Jesus Christ. He got angry when I said that in the Bible Jesus says "I am the way, the truth and the life, No one comes to the Father except through me" How can there be another way if you believe that the Bible is the word of God? He said I don't want to argue with you stop worrying about my soul, it's fine, and then left...I do worry about his soul though. It was such a shame, there are so many lost people. I was one, I am glad Christ found me...

My favorite quote from Bono is--I love Jesus but I don't own Jesus. It sounds to me that you all are trying hard to own Jesus and decide for him what the love of God is really all about. I would have a hard time believing in a God who is tossing everyone but me and just a few others into hell forever. You don't own Jesus and you don't own salvation.

I don't recall reading anywhere in the Holy Scriptures that Jesus, Himself, went around "claiming to be the Son of God". Although He did say He was there to do His Fathers work. Jesus didn't brag like Bono seems to believe.
