What a surprise treat!!! Mauro, and Michael Lewin, appreciate the respect you both showed for this very special yamadori, and Master Kimura. What an honor and privilege, Mauro, to be asked to work on this spruce nearly 30 years after Master Kimura’s first styling! And, how fortunate we are to be able to observe and learn!!! Wondered what former students of Master Kimura’s think he might have had imagined and suggested for this stage of the tree’s life.🪴🪴🪴 Thank you again.

Without making this too long of a comment... I can 100% relate. Bonsai has totally consumed me. It's the last thing I think about when I go to sleep (almost meditative) and the first thing I think about when I wake up. If it was part of my life in my younger years, my life would probably have been a lot different. If I was in a position to just do bonsai for the rest of my life, I would.

I) Know the tree.... Simple II)Analize the general tree orientation and structure A)Determine the front B)Find the shape 1)First branch 2)Second branch 3)Back branch 4)Apex ...Simple Style, artistic expression, and techniques ...not so simple. It takes decades to learn at this master's level! Mauro's artistic style comes out brilliantly in both his expressive teaching and craftsmanship. I love it when a bonsai has an interesting story behind it. Mauro's credibility reached new heights with me after he was able to improve on a famous master's initial design. This was a bold move by Mauro IMHO. It would be interesting know the reaction Masahiko Kimura might have to the momentous direction this tree has taken. My guess is that Kimura would simply state that it is just another tree styled by the next generation. It would be awesome if this bonsai outlives all of us and survives for generations to come. Who has a crystal ball?

I started growing some trees from seed this year, Japanese larch and black spruce. 200 of each that will be shaped in the ground for some years. I wonder if any of those will ever reach a professional bonsai master in the future..

Saudações do Brasil, professor!!
