You make bonsai look so easy. How would a California wax myrtle respond to bonsai?

Peter Berger thank you! They are very good material for bonsai, and very low maintenance. I love them! 😀😀

What soil do you use for these?

I make my own bonsai soil. 35% clay, 25% pumice, 25% lava rock, 15% crush granite. You have to sift it to 1/4 size. If you have Tractor Supply Co. around you you can buy them there cheap, except for lava rocks. Clay is scent free cat litter, crush granite is chicken digestive supplement. Pumice and lava rock are bought from garden nurseries.

Leaves are way too big to make this tree look like traditional bonsai. The proportions are off

Levkin yes because it’s not bonsai yet. It will take many years to develop ramification. Then when there are a lot of small branches, the leaves will be smaller as well. Crape Myrtle is a popular species for bonsai. When The video was taken, the tree was just reported to a bonsai pot a few months back so I only care that it’s alive.
