Probably the best video I have seen to help newcomers through the re-potting process. Very good demonstration & explanations.

Hello! I just got a beautiful Chinese Elm from you with pruning, wiring and repotting kits. I'm still learning the basics about my bonsai, when to water and prune, so I don't want to hurry up with repotting, but the size of its current pot looks pretty small... So I wanted to ask you, when is the right time to repot? When to know that the roots need some more space? Thank you in advance!

Hi Lloyd love your tutorials. If I wasn't moving house in the next few weeks I would have ordered a tree from you before now but as soon as I've moved I will. I just wondered in this Vid the tree looked like it was growing in compost, before you re potted it is that right and if so how long for. Thanks Kathy

Lloyd when do I start shopping my bonsai? My jade bonsai is pretty small and it’s a growing straight up with no shape
@BonsaiDirect6 жыл бұрын
Hi Roxanne, we start shaping from a very young age. Once the trunk is approximately 3-4mm in width. Be very gentle witht he jade tree though, the trunk and bark is very soft. Kind regards Lloyd

I use a liquid plant food for my bonsai trees, should I still fertilizer or not?
@BonsaiDirect7 жыл бұрын
Please do not use both. A liquid plant food may be too strong for a bonsai. It would be better to just use a bonsai fertiliser on its own.

Hmm feel you could've picked a tree that required a repot that tree had quite a bit of room I'd say you repotted that tree the previous year you repot Chinese Elm once every 2-4 years don't repot a tree that only has 1 completed that's bad root husbandry on your behalf. Edit: 3:09 what did I tell you 😂

I found the tutorial very slow. Also I disagree with using Pure Akadama as a substrate on the bottom. This will clog after a year or so as Akadama melts. What is needed is a heavy grit on the bottom to stand the tree on. The bottom of the root ball will then settle on the grit, the height can be adjusted by using adding or removing the grit. I , feel that grit can be sprinkled over the top of the Akadama as a finish to help stop weeds and can be used as a decorative finish.
