By far best moss video for bonsai I've seen yet! Thanks so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I enjoyed your thoughts on the lichen as well. I've tried moss from my forest for a couple of years now and have struggled to get it to grow on my bonsai trees. I've combined it (grated) with sphagnum moss, and applied it as a top dressing in the spring. This is the first I've heard someone mention the challenge of moss from the forest. - Choten-en Bonsai

Unfortunately the moss intended for use in bonsai is not what grows down here in the super hot, humid, and sunny region of the southeastern USA. I live in North GA, the Atlanta area to be specific, and the moss down here tends to be crawling hypnum types of mosses. It's essentially like grass, but it's a moss. I've had some clumping style mosses shipped to me but they're hard to keep happy in the southeastern sunlight. They eventually adapt but it takes time, and can be a bit aggravating to keep healthy. I've gotten to that point where whatever grows naturally on the top of my soil is what I get.

Can I use moss for indoor bonsai? I tried it but mine are getting brown and yellowish. Maybe it's not possible
