Thanks so much for this video! I had a surprise visitor of a maple seedling in one of my garden pots and decided I'd try my hand at bonsai. I know it's still got a couple years of developing to do before I can shape it, but it's nice to get a knowledge base while I wait!

Fantastic video thank you. Can you tell me which month you pruned this one back? I'm also wondering if you bought the original tree or grew it yourself? I ask because I have quite a mature acer in my garden that I don't really like as it's not been pruned and is overgrown. I'd happily have the space back if it's possible to dig out and develop it into a bonsai. Thank you again. Moray (Bedfordshire, England)

Dont you spoil dormant buds pulling with your hands?? I prefer scissors, slower but safer..... Thanks for sharing, a great development. Cheers!!!

It's better to cut precision,be careful,patient,,don't need to want to be fast, sort 1 by 1 ,reduce risk🤔

You are right, doing leaf by leaf with scissors is better - but in this case it didnt matter much as we were pruning and wiring the tree anyway.

I’ve heard for maples aluminum wire is recommended instead of copper. Is that just an aesthetic choice? Are there any concerns with copper?
@bonsaiempire
@bonsaiempire 4 ай бұрын
Aluminum is a little softer, which helps on the fragile branches and bark of the maple. And its easier to apply :)
