I would love to learn more about Junipers, how they grow, how to prune, what to expect, what their characters and needs are. Please consider, you are the best (and most knowledgeable) I've come across on my Bonsai journey. Much appreciated

stupid question but from an evolutional pov why do most species grow more than 3 shoots at a junction, obviously nature is prepared to lose some branches but doesnt the inverse taper cause more problems?

Okay so I'm pretty confident with Multi flush pines now. Thanks Ryan. I'm still confused with single flush pine. Do we pluck needles, prune candles?

Thanks Ryan! For us on the California coast marine layer is solid during early summer. Does that mean begin slowing down fertilizer more like July? May/Gray & June/Gloom! Ha

A couple of errors in describing photosynthesis and cellular metabolism. C6H12O6, the carbohydrate product of photosynthesis, is glucose. It is not broken down into sugars that can be used for energy. It IS the sugar plants use for energy (in cellular respiration). Also the oxygen that plants release during photosynthesis doesn't come from carbon dioxide: it comes from water. This takes place during the light-dependent phase of photosynthesis.

The glucose is used to create atp via cellular respiration and that is technically the plants base energy so he isn't wrong

Very new to the concept of bonsai. Would you be able to graft a bud below an area of inverse taper on a spruce to help thickening of the trunk?

If you have a tree in development where you essentially just want it to grow and get bigger, would that partial leaf defoliation still be something you'd want to do or would you just let the tree grow and do it's thing?
@piercegauge5800

No. Let it grow. Bigger pot or in the ground

Pretty sure mycorrhiza is the symbiotic relationship between mushrooms and a tree's rootsystem. Are you supposed to have some kind of mushroom in your bonsai container?
@ahappyimago
@ahappyimago 10 ай бұрын
It doesn’t look like a mushroom. It’s just some white stuff on the root system. It happens naturally but sometimes you can add it from an established soil.
