Oh I love this!! Thank you for showing all the ways to use the triangles!! And the one at the end with the one block, you mentioned it may be your favorite, I understand! I made a pieced backing for a quilt recently, and my daughter and I decided it was so cozy and comfy looking, I purchased backing for it and the quilt it was to back. We just love that big pieced quilt! 🥰😂♥️

TY for the wonderful tips about squaring... I could watch you all day! I agree with being your own designer... it's the best way to use up a stash of fabric... I wish more people would give this a try because i know a LOT of people my age that are going to be leaving behind a LOT of fabric! Be well... Hugs, GrammaBabs

I know exactly what you mean so I've started making a concerted effort this year to use up fabric and not buy fa bric unless it's backgrounds and some solids, well some patterns if they'll work for borders. I'm trying!

A little tip… I put a small 3M hook in the middle of my smaller square 4/5 inch rulers (also my 6x1 and 12x1 inch rulers too actually)… it gives me a stable better hold on them and fingers are up high 🤗🤗🤗 (I also use a template grip sticker on the bottom as well so with both the hook on top and the grip on the bottom, I get way less movement and more control!) I’m loving your videos! 🫶🫶🫶 Your enthusiasm is contagious, you’re so cute!

@merrymabelmarketАй бұрын
All of the measurements vary depending on how it LOOKS to me. Plus, I aim to make the quilts the size that my "donation" lady prefers. (40 x 50-58) So, I just decide on border size by what looks good and by what size I'm aiming for.

I keep all HST that I can do with leftover from building a block. I do some with other piece left over like the little triangle from joint in binding. I square them to the nearest 1/4 inch and sort them by size. I’m doing this since years and I have a bunch of them now from 1 inch to 4 inches. Eventually I will do a project with them, I have already wrote down idea of design.

To make a 4.5" sq HST what do you cut your sqaures at? Could you use two layer cakes and make four and trip them to size?
@merrymabelmarketАй бұрын
It sounds good to me, but I haven't used that method for ever - so I don't dare advice you. Try it and see? Probably no trimming needed.
@kim_4448Ай бұрын
A 5 inch square will yield 2 - 4.5” unfinished hst (4 inch finished). Draw a diagonal line corner to corner, sew 1/4 in on each side, cut on diagonal line, then trim. the formula is finished sized plus 7/8”, but you have to be exact on your cutting and quarter inch, so easiest to take finished size and add an inch then trim down. You could do the easy eight method with a layer cake to get 8 4 in finished (4.5 in unfinished) hst. Look up 8 at a time HST and there are lots of videos and instructions on how to do it. Good luck!
@momistakenАй бұрын
When you do a pinwheel block, how do you get a flat center? Mine are always a pokey mess. I’m talking about getting all those points together at the center in case anybody’s new!
@merrymabelmarketАй бұрын
Marti Mitchell has a short called the "Four Patch Swirl" and there are people who swear by that. (You can google it and see.) I've tried to make it happen and I just don't think it matters enough to take the time. Also, if you don't want to make sure the thread breaks so that it can twist on back - it is also less bulky to just press the seam open. (I have been known to do that.) Generally though - I just press as shown in my video - because speed and a longarm are important to me and it is flat enough. Batting is the great equalizer. And I'm careful when I quilt to go right through those centers and nail them down.
@maureentaphouse5206Ай бұрын
Oh yes I have difficulty trimming with the smallest rulers. Even cutting a 1 1/2' square out of scraps is easier for me with say a 4 1/2" ruler. It worries me if my fingers are too close to the blade especially now arthritis is showing its face in my hands.
