I love watching musicians who smile at each other while playing like this - for me it gives it so much more of a soul, knowing that they're loving performing it as much as we do hearing it.

The playing is great, to be sure, but we shouldn't overlook the genius of Albert Ammons who wrote this pretty much exactly as it is being played....he died too young (1949 at 42) but was prolific piano player and composer. Something I find interesting is the how much there is in common between the boogie-woogie of his day and what we now call "old-time" music (a precursor of bluegrass). Melodically they are very different owing, I think, to the differences in the instruments they were played on and other factors. And old-time fiddle/banjo tunes came down from the rural areas, especially in the South, and boogie-woogie piano can be considered more urban. But they both are built around 3 chord harmonies and 8-bar or 12-bar structures. Both were vehicles for "folk" to raise money: old-time string bands were an integral part of traveling "medicine shows" as well as local dances in rural areas while piano players were often brought in for "rent parties" in places like Chicago, Kansas City and of course New Orleans to to charge a cover or request donations to help pay the rent and of there was plenty of dancing at these events too. They were both in their heyday in the early 20th century. Mostly they both have they same "high-energy", can't-keep-your-feet-still feel. Anyway let's not forget the contribution of Albert Ammons to this wonderful clip.

Sensational - never heard of this lady until today and I've been a blues fan for 50 years. Wonderful, and young enough to keep blues and boogie piano alive for many more years.

I grew up listening to all kinds of music, including the styles that Stephanie Trick and others are now playing. I love stride and boogie woogie, styles that were already way out of date when I was young. Now in my mid 50's I find it great to see someone the age of my own children not only playing this and ensuring its future, but making it really live. This young woman is brilliant on her own, in a trio and with other pianists.

just a little too fast and a bit missing out on the typical riffs which create the unique albert ammons sound. yes its pain in the fingers with all these, but people will always say wow. still, nice arrangement! Im not downgrading this performance dont get me wrong, I just wanted to give some feedback on how i as a bluesician and boogie player recognize it.

There's a guy in England I believe that has videos on KZbin. He does boogie woogie piano in various places with public pianos. I would really like to see the pianist here find that guy and fake like you don't play. He gives tutorials. He'll slow down so he can teach the rhythm. It would be hysterical to fake like grasping it and then unload on him! You guys are great! Your really made me smile!
