2021 and Boogie is still underrated. Kinda glad though, as no annoying Tik Tokkers will find this masterpiece.

Hello everyone, first of all thank you very much for listening. Second, I'd like to apologise for using Japanese stock footage with Chinese lyrics. When posting this I didn't know and I hope I didn't offend anyone. I just really really liked the 32mm footage I discovered. You can find the original footage here : archive.org/details/CLN-36-C-5_CAN_1 But again, thank you all for listening, liking & sharing ! To support me please like our FB page : facebook.com/boogiebelgique or you can support me by buying the full album : www.boogiebelgique.bandcamp.com

Boogie Belgique Hi, don't blame urself for this. I've never seen a so clear video that record the real history of post WW2 scenery in Japan with such a great old Chinese song that my Grandma always play. Thank you and looking forward to seeing ur new songs. A new 19 years old fan from Malaysia. =) Keep it UP!!

Boogie Belgique Thank you for sharing the original sources! Great combination!
I meant to post 4 years ago. I really like the mashup of the vocal, music, and video. It really brings out the belly-of-the-underworld feeling that post-war American-ran businesses had. You wanted to run a jazz bar, but international crime networks were pressuring you, and you felt all alone in a foreign land. The vocals are from "Roses in Bloom" by Gong Quixia (Kung Chiuhsia) from the namesake 1942 Chinese film. The record would have been available to Americans in Japan after the war and played at clubs like Tokyo Joe, the bar in the movie with the same name, starring Bogart, where the film clip is from.

I really appreciate how many of your songs feature historical and cultural themes and merge them with a calm synth jazz vibe, it's so wonderful!

Super high quality historical video. I've been to these places in Tokyo. Very nostalgic. I noticed the elevated train, still common today. What stood out to me was fast post war recovery, like it never happened. I noticed some US military style office buildings with English signs. The Chinese music is fine. In Tokyo, people are always well dressed in public, even in hard times. Keep up the good work.

It's a little bit shock for me to heard of the Chinese lyrics 「薔薇處處開(qiang wei chu chu kai)」with Japanese scene. [As revised,] The quoted song 〈薔薇處處開〉 is from the same-name theme music of the movie filmed in Shanghai in 1942. It's a famous song being wide covered. and the quoted footage, as himag.blog.jp/45903361.html inferenced, is filmed near 新橋駅(Shimbashi Station) and 道玄坂(Dōgen Slope) in Shibuya between October and November of 1948. Though it's a bit anachorism, the music video is still amazing.

JL CY actually the movie and the theme song were from Shanghai, back in 1942. check it out: baike.baidu.com/item/%E8%94%B7%E8%96%87%E5%A4%84%E5%A4%84%E5%BC%80/73682

+馬世芳 Sorry I didn't noticed that there's three movies with the same name each filmed in 1942, 1952, and 1956. According to Baidupedia, the one filmed in Shanghai in 1942 published this song.

I find it a little funny how the bg music sounds like Mandarin Chinese. I hope its not just me who heard the line " roses blooming everywhere" in Mandarin. I enjoyed the clip very much tho, it's like traveling back in time, I like how most are so well dressed as it appears at least.

I think this video has outstanding quality because the original film--probably 16 mm film stock--was digitally processed to make it look like 35 mm film stock. That explains why there are no film scratches on the video and the motion is so steady.
Thanks for sharing this. Awesome peek back in time.

great footage! how is it that camera is made in 1929 and all the war era videos don't look this good? at 2:02 minutes with the words kimuraya, is that ginza? interesting song, makes me wanna check out Boogie's other songs. I'm actually 100% sure the singing in this song is in chinese and not Japanese though. Would love to know it's title/singer.

Very nice video. Though I'm a bit curious as to what the video camera looked like or how big (or small?) it was way way back, coz I think people find it strange and amusing at the same time as they all look at the camera/person. Any person could shed some light into this?
