I hunted this unit a in 2020 and that would of been the biggest buck I saw. Seen a few close but they all had those little lobster claws for front two points. Half the deer on the unit seemed to have that trait. Ended up eating tag soup after 11 years of applying for this tag. Congrats on a nice looking buck.

What an incredible public land DIY hunt in the back country! I was so nervous when the bicyclist rode by and scared the buck out of sight, but you stayed persistent and harvested a tremendous old warrior. Hats off to your husband for doing such a great job getting you on that buck. Love this!

Huge congratulations on a buck that can only be viewed as a truly magnificent animal. As others have said, I couldn’t believe you had passed on him the first time. I’m glad it worked out and you were able to get a second chance at him. The Book Cliffs is an amazing place. It has fallen to the bottom and risen to the top many times in the past 25 years. Super dry years can make it a challenging place to hunt deer while some years, there seem to be monsters everywhere. But the uniqueness of the area, the collective abundance of wildlife, the natural beauty and the degree of the challenge make it my favorite place to hunt archery bucks. Congratulations again Kristy. That was awesome.

Spent all summer working with her. 2500 miles one way. Paid for a guide service. 5 days, one .308 round, been eating moose every since. Congratulations Kristy! This was a magnificent hunt. There's nothing like hunting on public land. You got yourself a warrior. This reminded me of the Tule Elk tag hunt i was on 2 years ago. I passed up 3 beautiful bulls and ended up tagging an older battle-torn bull who you can tell has been through quite a lot over his reign of the marshland. I cried like a baby once the adrenaline wore off. The best part was being with my dad on that hunt. We had the best week ever. I subscribed & liked the excellent content. Keep it up. Conservation is key to more public land hunts like these.

You did good. and you were fortunate. The year before, the Utah DNR moved the season up 10 days earlier than ever before....or since. 85 degrees, no rain for 3 months, and most hunters saw only a few does during the entire season. This past season, yours, they moved the season back to where it should have been, and migratory bucks gave hunters like you, some chance. You took it, and did well. Congrats. To all hunters who were stiffed the year before, my condolences. Utah DNR strikes again.

Wonderful video and even better commentary. I feel compelled to offer advice as I have personally witnessed inexperienced/careless hunters take unsafe shots at silhouettes of game. With that deer affixed on your pack in a somewhat natural position, you could unfortunately be mistaken as a nice buck cresting a hill, especially in low light conditions. You may disagree, but someone else reading this comment might take this into consideration and either arrange their pack differently, or think twice before taking a shot in low light conditions. Thank you for sharing.

Good buck, my brother had the arhcery tag this last year. We spent a lot of time in the roadless area and were so disappointed with the age class of the deer. We had a very similar experience I don't think we saw a buck that broke 160 class in 23 days of scouting and hunting. Sad that unit has gone down so bad over the last few years.

When I used to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan, when we would come back to the FOB after long patrols or outings at the COP, as soon as the ramp or the door would open on our vehicle, I could smell the females on the base. They wore makeup and just smelled like a perfume counter. Not being around it heightens your senses. I say this because, who knows how well those deer smell you with all that makeup and eyeliner on? Thanks for the content. Just my unique perspective.

I’m sorry that you feel like this. I have spent nearly $500/year on expo tags for 12 years. I’m thankful to have finally drawn. And, I’ll keep adding my money to the pot even if I never draw again because it’s the right thing to do. It’s all about CONSERVATION.

@@PursuetheWild 30% of the expo money goes back into wildlife in Utah!! Get ghephart a news reporter did a story on them giving 10% back few years back and don peay started giving 30% back.. Rocky Mountain elf foundation said they would give back 100% of proceeds and Herbert (now cox ) give it to their buddy sfw and mdf

It's all about public lands and you're upset with a bicycle scaring away your deer. I get it's frustrating but the thing about public lands is anyone can use them, even if they are participating in a sport other than your own.

12 years of spending $500 a year, on a chance to draw all in order to support conservation efforts. That’s what it’s about. Conservation. If I never win another tag again so be it. But I’ll keep putting in every year and keep hoping for another chance to draw.
