Agree that Knockemstiff is fantastic, and his next two novels are miles better! (Come on, Donald Ray Pollock, write faster!) Of course, I love Larry Watson -- if you can find it, pick up Let Him Go: it's horrifying and so freaking excellent! Different publisher, so it won't match your others. I'm a sucker for campus stories, so I immediately put the Joanne Harris on my wishlist, thank you very much (and thanks to bookseller C/Kathy!) I read all three of Frank McCourt's books, and loved all three, plus I read two of Malachy McCourt's books, and loved them as well -- big fan of that family. Alphonse McCourt also has a book, but I haven't been able to find that one yet. I've had an ARC of Blonde Roots sitting on my shelf for years, not realizing what it was! Why? Because sometimes I'm an idiot! It's going into my "read soon" stack, so it's got a pretty good chance of being read before I die. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So, thanks, Greg!

I haven't read Donald Ray Pollock's other books, so thanks for the inspiration! I saw the movie Let Him Go and was interested in the book, but somehow it fell off my radar, so thanks for that as well.

Ordered a copy of Delinquents after you’d read the description. Sounds great. Not easy to find in stock around here, which is a shame. Mr Loverman is my current physical read. Not very far in yet, but I love Barry! The Kamogawa Food Detectives books sound great. I’ve put them both on hold at the library. The Larry Watson books sound excellent too. I will look for them. Great book haul!

You have a great library. Best wishes with what you choose to read. You must get recommended many books. If you are looking for a thriller, how about the Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett? I don't think you will regret it. If you do feel free to tell me off!

The Frank McCourt books are fabulous. His brother, Malachy, also wrote a memoir whose name escapes me. I was lucky to take a memoir writing weekend workshop and Malachy McCourt was on the panel.

I’m excited that you’re excited!😃I recommend “Mr. Loverman” if you want an enjoyable read with an unforgettable main character. I’d like to let you know about a new non-fiction book, “Frighten the Horses” by Oliver Radclyffe. Oliver used to be known as Nicky; a Connecticut housewife with four kids who came to the decision that they were probably a lesbian. Later, they realized they were meant to be a man. This is the story of their journey of gender identity.

I had to Google. Says it (Mr Loverman) is an 8 part television series set to air later this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

I was traveling through parts of Europe in the first half of September and bought Marcovaldo by Italo Calvino (in Italian, bought in Italy), La Délicatesse du homard by Laure Manel (in French, bought in Luxemborg) and Die Knuedler-Verschwörung by Claude Dominicy (in German but set in Luxemburg, bought in Luxemburg). I actually also bought Das kommunistische Manifest in Trier, Germany, because Karl Marx was born in Trier. (I am a language enthusiast 😂)

Since you always say you’re open to corrections, from a book design standpoint, the “crease” in a book is referred to as the “gutter.” And yes, many things get lost in the gutter, especially maps and illustrations.
