Mr. Schrader was one of my teachers in the first year at university in Kyoto, 1971. He had lived in Japan for a few years with his Japanese wife. When I first saw him, I thought he looked like one of my favorite singer-songwriters - Tom Rush. One day he didn’t show up in class on time. We had to wait for twenty minutes. That was a rule. If a teacher didn’t come to class, we were supposed to wait for twenty minutes, then we were allowed to leave. At the last moment, he showed up with an awkward smile. He put his raincoat on the desk. It was a rainy day. Then he went out somewhere without saying anything. We waited for another five minutes. He came back with a cup of coffee in his hand. Another day he gave us an assignment: Go see "Five Easy Pieces." It was on at a cinema in Kyoto. He also said something like 'Don't waste your time on "Love Story," which was a far more popular film that year. Fifty-three yeas later, I still remember vividly and fondly those days with Mr. Schrader.

I've watched this so many times I've lost count, but if you asked me why I don't think I could tell you. Maybe it's just that I want to buy more books.

it's almost like you should take chances with book purchases and read stuff that isn't too well known

It will have happened like all these large book collections: most of it will have ended up in the trash.

So, where are the books now? I hope others are enjoying them and not collecting dust.

The question is though, can someone who just buys lots of books be called "book obsessed", or is that really only those who buy the books to actually read?

This is a terrible video with the commentary drowned in loud music. What an idiotic way of communicating. Maybe they have nothing interesting to say. I will never know.
