I love this series, it was my introduction to epic fantasy, and I've read them all many, many times. One thing has always bugged me though; Richard had the boxes in his control since the second book. Why didn't he ever think to use them earlier, or even just threaten to use them in a deterrent type of way?

@@TheMagusOfTheMagnaCarta thanks John. I’ve just spent the last few weeks rereading the chain fire trilogy and I’m not sure this is totally true. Sure, in confessor he learns the correct method to open the right box, but beforehand he believed his version of the book of counted shadows was a legitimate guide. So while he would have been wrong, he spent 10 books believing he knew how to open the correct box

Thanks, Alpha. Liked and subscribed. I'll push on to the Richard and Kahlan series. I'm wondering about your thoughts on Goodkind as an artist. Obviously, he has a strong agenda in his writing, and I think the artistic aspect tends to suffer at times. For instance, his well-documented longwindedness seems to derive from his need to hammer his points home. Your thoughts?

I started listening to the book and now just realized that they made two seasons of the book and I can't find the first season I found the first episode and they just have the second episode so you can you help me find the first season

I watched their first trailer of the first couple books and all they have on KZbin after that is the second season and it's pissing me cuz I love the books I started listening and I'm just like wow so if you can help me find the entire thing that would be awesome

I loved his vision, his world, and his story narrative. But I hated his writing style, the words he chose and the way he chose to use them. Imagine the exact same stories written by say... Wilbur Smith. I know he's not a fantasy writer but what a wonderful turn of phrase the man has. I would also say the same of Alistair McLean. Both authors are capable of reducing an audience to tears of anguish or joy just by writing a weather forecast. Terry Goodkind couldn't raise a frown by writing about the Holocaust. A wonderful and beautiful world with inspiring and rich characters in exciting and haunting events written badly.
