There is a line at the very end when she’s talking to Jonah and she says his eyes don’t change color, signifying that he isn’t one of her creations, as all other Darlings, Max, and Ava all have differing and changing eye colors. I believe the lesson at the end is whether or not she wants to live in a fantasy of her own creation or live in real life where people are unpredictable, which in my interpretation is why she has a hard time looking at him at the end, because she’s not sure what she wants.

I’m fairly certain Jonah is real. The Bunny’s talk to him and the other poets talk to him. I think the end is just the author’s writing style. She’s looking at the mud puddle so technically she’s talking to it while answering Jonah…is how I took it. But I get the confusion

But maybe ALL the others characters dont exist too. If all it's in samantha head, it can explain how Ava and Jonah can talk to the bunnies

This was such a good take! If I remember correctly, in the beginning he asks her if she’s talking to the ducks or something like that. So your schizophrenic theory is not too bad tbh.
