I agree with your criticisms in addition to a few other things but the way he speaks was definitely not one of them. Glad you enjoyed it!

@@rouxellereads Thank you! 😊 I definitely enjoyed it & didn’t mind the use of slang. Did you enjoy the book?

@@bookswithkimberly for the most part, I liked it. I gave it like a 3.5 rating. The cultural aspects I liked but the plot, characters and the magic system left things to be desired for me.

@@rouxellereads I completely agree! Glad you liked it for the most part. I’m hoping the second & third books have better development of the characters, plot, and magical system. I didn’t touch on the magic in my video but that was a critique of mine too. Those vivid visions needed more explaining lol.

I notice that way with black male protagonists I feel like we need to cover the whole gamut of what a black man can do and feel

Everyone likes to compare all magical schools to Hogwarts it’s annoying

@@PoppyMorreale It is and I believe it lessens the excitement for some readers.

My issue with this book atm(currently reading it) all of the. Lack culture seems forced. I don’t know it’s like this is how the author thinks Black ppl speak but he doesn’t speak that way. It’s really memeish. It just feels really forced.

@@poverty Okay, that makes sense. I didn’t think the character’s language needed to be completely cleaned up. But I can see how it came off as forced. Hopefully, in the rest of the series the author will be mindful of the language used.
