Book Review - Dora Bruder - Patrick Modiano - Nobel Prize Literature - German Occupation of Paris

In this video I discuss the novella Dora Bruder by French author, winner of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature, Patrick Modiano. This book deals with a very dark episode in Parisian and French history--the German occupation. Specifically, the book follows the author's search for a fifteen-year-old Jewish girl who went missing in 1941, a search for clues over a half century after-the-fact.
As I mention in the video: This is a unique book that transcends categories. It’s short, a novella, but it’s not really fiction, or traditional non-fiction either. I would say it’s a sort of memoir, partly of the author, partly of the eponymous Dora Bruder and also of the street of Paris, if they would speak.
If you enjoy French literature in general, you will probably enjoy this book about a time in Parisian history that is seldom thought of anymore.
