Book Review Salvage the Bones

Wow. Two things I forgot to mention in the review that are important;
1) some study I can’t get my hands on talked about how when you’re poor and you’re trying to break the cycle one mistake will cost you your chance of economic mobility. A surprise pregnancy for a poor teenager vs. one for an upper middle class teenager can mean totally different outcomes- trust me Ik 😉

This book was soooo beautiful .i remember watching the hurricane katrina stuff on tv and I couldn’t even imagine( I was a teenager as well) . But jesymn gathered me all the way together to think how poor rural folks especially blacks and here comes this big asssss storm and how do they survive with the resources they have. This was one of my top reads from last year . I listened on cd from the library and would take long drives to keep listening to the book. But the relationship she has with her family was so solid . Random : I work in a school system and they give us all these fake books to read to connect with ‘ economically disadvantaged kids and black and brown ‘ written by some white person see where I am going . BUT THIS SPEAKS to why parents can’t / don’t come in for parent conference LIFE, poverty , mental health , family dynamics , access . Ok let me stop Also she wrote something about the men in her life and that was everything . Something about southern black women writers that can speak to my soul and experiences rather currently or in the past is just an unspeakable magic . Happy black history month ❤️

I read this book out of no where and I had no idea about the author or what the story was about. At the time I was reading books by authors who wrote fiction based off the place they lived. This was such a good book to experience. That’s what I felt the entire time. I couldn’t judge or comment I just experienced this story.
