No truer words have ever been spoken “no one has ever gone wrong with a vintage flamingo“. Another great video I personally savor all the pieces you don’t use, and the explanations of why, because I absolutely enjoy hearing your process! Please don’t ever change a thing.

Dear Michelle, thank you for this. I am already thinking about how to go forward with the channel in the new year and lots will be similar but now that I halfway know what I am doing I think I could slant it all the same. You have given me great feedback about something that does NOT need to change. I hope you have a great weekend! (Now off to finish that newsletter.)😺

After the gasps and shock of seeing you use originals, I love the respect and appreciation of how you use them to their best advantage in your layout.

Ha! Michele, I am in an unusual situation as searching for and finding old paper is my real job. But it is also the reason that, as I often say in my videos, an altered book takes for-flipping-ever to make as I have to be very, very sure. My art journals that I don't sell but are just for fun and learning are where I use print outs and copies and they are much more free. And less nerve wracking. Off to make something now! Kelly

What a fabulous layout, Mr Magpie definitely looks like he is advising Napoleon, pity he didn’t wanna listen, things may have turned out better for him 😁. I love your channel Kelly, you help me to calm down and think before I glue!

Well thank you, Yvie! I love old magpie engravings and have a hard time making myself use them but he really was the bird to stand up to Napoleon (who I have recently been reading more about as I got some handwritten papers from when he was running the show in France and yowza, what a tale!).

And re gluing - years ago I spent weeks making an altered book and when it was done I altered the cover beautifully - and upside down to the rest of the book. I keep it to remind me to look and check, then check again before I cut or glue anything. 😎

I just love your work and the process you use. You talking through why you do and don't use something really helps me.💙💜

Decisions, decisions... It's never an easy process, but that is why, when it finally does come together, it's amazing! And Kelly, your works of collage are ALWAYS amazing! Thank you for the info behind so many of your yummy pieces! So informative. Just LOVE your tutorials. Thank you.

Hi Lynn, I actually spend wayyyyy more time deciding than I show on camera. You just move stuff around until it clicks. Hope you are having a great weekend. Now off to finish that newsletter!

Great layout. The "repair" looks like it was part of the original. Love it. Never thought of mulberry. Thanks for sharing.

It is my real pleasure! I also sometimes use tea bags for mending as it is also weirdly malleable but strong. And it looks cool.

Thank you! As soon as this newsletter is written I am going to treat myself to another layout. It is my favourite thing to do in the whole world but not exactly productive so I am glad they make good videos. That is my rationalisation, anyway.😮😉😁

Your perspective is so interesting. I haven't found another KZbin junk journal expert with your awesome insight. Thank you Kelly. Looking forward to the newsletter this weekend - my first one.

Why thank you, Kathy. You have made my day with this. In the past I have been tempted to bump my numbers up by doing more traditional crafting tutorials but then I think - why would I? Then I go back to making the old, slightly esoteric stuff. Now off to finish that pep talk for tomorrow's newsletter! So glad you joined. 🌻🌻

Thank you for the feedback, Susan. It is truly helpful. And isn't it funny how what you don't see is actually a process. Must be the same in writing music or making a movie when it all looks so easy!

Hi Kelly, love the narrative, it really makes a difference. Love your watch by the way. Was kinda hoping you would use our Aussie Kookaburra but the magpie was a better fit. Cheers xx
@BookandPaperArts2 жыл бұрын
You saw that kookaburra on the side! He was looking down or otherwise he was a strong contender. I love this watch, too. Bought it for £5 euros 15 years ago and I just put on a classier strap and let it look pricey!

Kelly, your work is stunning, as usual. Any advice for what printer to buy for printing your vintage scans? Much appreciated.

Hi Kate. I use HP ENVY 7134 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Printer or it may be the 7100 series. It wasn't that much and it has done sterling service. Definitely the best printer I have ever used. You can use it with the HP Instant Ink scheme which is so handy. So think about that or look at other inkjet printers. Let me know how it goes!
