Excellent demonstration. One tip I would offer is the use of a bamboo skewer to rest in each of the gutters either side of the spine upon final pressing, this ensures the gutters are well stuck down.
@erykfreethinker71475 жыл бұрын
Thank you for uploading. A good tip is to place a sheet of waxed paper next to the book-block and over it a sheet of blotting paper next to the cover when drying after casing in. Also to explain to viewers that the distance between cover boards and the spine board changes with respect to the size of the book and to the thickness of the cover material. I realise this is a tutorial that is aimed at a kit but after learning with the kit people may want to go on to create many styles of book.
@luna-kiva4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Glue can be messy. And the beauty of this is that one does not need a kit to do this.

Hi, wonderful video on bookbinding. I am writing my life story and have been undecided on how to 'make a book' cover for it. Was going to do a Coptic stitch cover, but I think your cover will be much sturdier and more professional. Your instructions are so clear, no noisy music etc and all the tools needed are what craft people usually have or are easy and not expensive to acquire. Thank you for this video.

Definitely one of the better tutorials out there - well paced, sufficient explanations and clear instructions. My only question would be is there a certain calculation to determine the width of the spine of your book? (i.e. is it equal to the width of the signatures stacked together?) Also, is the fabric for the head bands the same as the muslin and if not, what should it be? Thanks for a great lesson!

Can't believe it took this long to find a descent tutorial on this. All the others try their hardest to just make things look neat. This is by far the best and most informative! Thank you! Any suggestions on making a thicker book (ca. 600 pages) this way? Just follow the same recipe? Any software that will rearrange my pdf according to how many signatures etc. I want?
