im flatbed driver got opportunity to do local work here in TN as owner operator movijg scrap metal for next few months wondering if its worth buying the trailer and have enough local work here paying decent

I would be careful buying equipment right now unless it’s cash you can burn. The local markets are taking a hammering from the OTR guys not being able to run and who knows where that’ll stop. I’m not sure on the TN market but my advice to you would be call some quarry’s and ask how their volume is now compared to the last few years. Don’t stop at just 1 call though because they don’t always shoot you straight. Then call some Aggregate brokers and ask them the same thing. You should be able to get a good idea on the market just by that and help you make a decision. If the work is there and you have the cash to burn then by all means man, buy it and hammer down.

@@WSFTFORLIFE no cash at all was going with 0 down and 72 month huge payment snd terrible interest i just spent my last 50k on reman 12.7l detroit. clutch, new 13 speed and almost every part on my 379 plus some chrome stuff and im doing okay with flatbed especially since i own truck and trailer but its killing me to make ends meeet with these shit rates. scrap broker gave me lane running 2 runs a day between nashville (where i live) and jackson which is 130 miles. each $720 so its $1440 a day running 500 miles. its very good considering i work like a dog to make 1500/ day flatbed and not go home at end of day plus i could save on maintenance, insurance etc since im relatively local but all these scrap trailers are 60-70k $ and its scary to take a $2500/ month trailer and invest in wet kit and end up to be 2 months of this lane and then i cant find good work very scary

@@twistedtrucker7781 most of the brokers in the DFW are local only BUT almost all of the brokers on bulk loads are regional and have contacts all over. Not saying they’re guaranteed but just another hook in the water

@WSFTFORLIFE yeah bulkloads is a joke,the only loads on there are the ones nobody wants!! I'm in a good place right now I have some good work going on but I was interested in the rock brokers because it's getting time for me to start working closer to home. Been on these roads with my own trucks for 25 years now,and around my way there's lots of local guys doing local work but you can't get any information on who and what they are doing??

@@twistedtrucker7781 call the quarry’s and ask them who their top haulers are and start calling those companies. If you get an operator at the quarry’s that don’t want to help, just keep calling until you get someone but most of the time they’ll tell you the companys name.
