One of the most beautiful cities I've ever been in one of the most beautiful countries I've ever traveled to. My grandmother was from the island of Madeira, she moved to Canada in the 1930s and I still remember her speaking to my mother in her native Portuguese, despite not being able to understand much this created a fond memory of my childhood and a part of me always felt connected to this land. over 200k people. it's not that big of a city but it has so much to see that it does feel like this huge, never-ending place. you got the urban landscape, the douro river, lots of museums and churches, beautiful parks, several beaches, nature trails, etc.

My great-gandfather went from This northern portuguese region to Brazil in 1915 and here he got married with a brazilian woman also with portuguese ansestry. On my mother's side, her grandmother came from italy in 1920 and married with a brazilian man with native ansestry. I think I might have some distant cousins in Portugal that I want to vist one day. Cousins that are great-grandsons from my great-grandparent's bothers and sisters.
