Thank you for sharing all of your favorite tools! I love using Tim Holtz's transparent ruler, and wanted to add an incredibly helpful tip a student of mine (who was also a quilter) shared with me 15 or more years ago. And that is to use the small sandpaper dots that quilters use to stick to the back of the ruler, so that, while you are using your craft knife, the ruler does not slip. Again, thank you for your wonderful instruction and inspiration!

Oh my gosh, Kit, this is so much fun! I love your frankenpaper, and sorting the bits by color is a great idea, I am going to try that. I love your sense of humor, Barbie really does need a science library.

Great video, Kit- you and I have very similar organizational techniques, it was fun to see how your studio works! Mine has a spiral staircase too :O) I really appreciated your detailed info on tools, books, ephemera, and where to find inspiration. I use many of my scraps (also color coordinated in ziplock bags) for card making and abstract collage - fun, and it uses up all those crazy pieces of paper. Thanks for a great "tour"!

hi Kit, thank you for sharing so many book-making tips and the invitation to tour your Studio. It is so generous, kind, and encouraging of you to offer them, & as tutorials. I think your Frankenpaper idea and its possibilities are especially helpful to me right now. I too have piles of bits and pieces,; European scherenschnitte artists often often call them "Schnibbles." :-) Kathy Trexel Reed

What a beautiful video! Just found you on Instagram and really enjoyed seeing your ideas here, plus your studio! How crafters organize their stuff, the tools they use, the spaces they work in... I'm obsessed with all of it! Pasting the paper bits onto another scrap paper and using them that way is something I will try. The page protectors used as idea collectors and as a filing system for images, that will save so much time! I never thought to use them loose, like manila envelopes.

Your ideas for how to use the smallest bits and bobs really inspired an aha moment for me, because I find it hard to throw out those potential treasures as well. How to accumulate, collate, and later assemble into new work is so inspired, Kit! Thank you also for the tour of your World Headquarters. I only recently stumbled upon your Instagram page, and let me just say you’ve reignited an enthusiasm for book arts that had wained somewhat. I hope to take some of your online classes in the future.

Your studio looks like an awesome place to hang out and I enjoyed the tutorial I purchased! I just lost my big collection of papers, ephemera and books in a fire and have moved into a smaller space. What top 10 supplies would you recommend for a hobbyist like me that just wants to make paper cards and books?
@kitdavey12 жыл бұрын
A, Glad you liked the tutorial. Sorry to hear you lost things in a fire---so sad! If you are trying to get re-started with your art, here are some basic tools: metal-edged ruler, pencil with eraser, scissors, bone folder, awl, big needles and waxed linen thread, PVA glue and brushes. Papers: old maps, old atlases, old musical scores, magazines (like National Geographic and Smithsonian), wallpaper, scrap booking paper, mixed media paper, old books with art in them (available at garage sales, flea markets and library sales), old encyclopedias and dictionaries, colored card stock. That should get you started. Good luck rebuilding your supplies and have fun making art! Kit
