Fantastic Vlog. I love when there's field trips and glimpses into other aspects of life- makes things interesting. I watched Fear Street last night. I won't lie, I was nervous but overall it was good, I enjoyed it. There were a few errors with the soundtrack I noticed as well. The White Zombie song from 1995, I Could Never be Your Woman is 1997 and even Bush X Sixteen Stone was December 1994...so I did find that a bit annoying, as this took place right in my era of growing up. I wonder if it had to do with licensing? Or if it was just blatant disregard and they put in what they wanted. All in all though, that was my biggest complaint. Looking forward to part 2!
@LibraryMacabre3 жыл бұрын
That was definitely frustrating. They probably should have just moved the year from 1994 to 96 or 97. The movie felt more late 90s anyway.
@paulsmyth67103 жыл бұрын
I also noticed that too regarding the song choices the same goes to Garbage's "Only Happy When It Rains" it came out in 1995/96 so iI just assumed that the director/producers/writers just decided to pick cool 90's music in general regardless of when they were released. The overall movie was fun as a standard slasher flick but I didnt get a Fear Street nostalgic vibe which is what I was hoping for. But I'm still looking forward to the next movies.

It was fun, but I wouldn't recommend that anyone else start there. Ironically, and I swear that I'm not joking, I got an actual sunburn today as I was reading it...hahaha because I was sitting on the beach. I did use sunscreen, but apparently it wasn't enough. Too coincidental and funny, haha! I love your vlogs! I am glad you enjoyed the movie. I watched it too, and I liked it a lot. I am loving these Fear Street vlog posts. Now I need to read Ski Lodge and the Fear Street Saga. The movie was pretty good. It felt very Blumhouse to me. The 90's setting did not feel very 90's, but it was a fun slasher, with a surprising amount of gore towards the end, and I liked the opening scene. As you said, it was definitely an homage to Scream. Congratulations on the full-time gig and all the benefits that come with it.

Another fantastic vlog! I just finished the movie and I definitely had some of the same feelings as you. Being a huge R. L. Stine and Fear Street fan I would have also liked to see them focus on the street itself a little more. I liked the nods to R. L. Stine in the bookstore scenes with some of his books making cameos. And also, as a nod to the main character Deena. Some of the gore I was like whoa they went there! Some of the foul language I felt like was just thrown in there because it could be. Because it was a rated R film. I also noticed the errors but, since it helped the movie flow I ignored it. I definitely feel like the 1978 movie is going to nod heavily to Friday the 13th, whereas this one nodded to Scream a bit. I did enjoy it and I can't wait to see what they come up with for the next one. I can't wait for your next blog also!

I'm still reading Fear street in order too (a few books behind you). That Podcast that you took part in sounds interesting too. I'll have to check it out. I've got mixed feelings about the Netflix film. It was done pretty well, but I too would have enjoyed some actual Fear Street scenes--not just Shadyside. I liked the Mall scene though. That whole opening action was pretty gripping. Some parts seemed they were included just to be "edgy" or something (drugs, language, etc), but overall...mixed. I'll watch them once. The original books I'll read many times. Good luck with the full time. Maybe you'll be able to afford lots of more books! Ha ha. Just hope you still have time to read them!

I just finished the first two parts of FEAR STREET and I loved them both. The music was really great, how everything looked so cool, and it's a totally scary slasher. Can't wait for the third part!

Another great vlog! I thought the movie was a lot of fun, even if it wasn't entirely true to the 1994 that I remember. From the moment she said, "Thank you for shopping at B. Dalton's," I knew it was speaking my language. Some of the more gruesome scenes toward the end were genuinely shocking to me (I had kinda started to think it wasn't going to go there). I'm really looking forward to the other two.

As soon as I saw the page on Netflix, I was waiting for your review lol. I grew up reading Fear Street so I was apprehensive about the adaptation. Thankfully, it was a solid film! Some parts did drag but at least they were few and in between fast-paced parts. And I was really happy to see the queer rep! I haven't read the books in over two decades so I don't remember any queer characters but it would've been nice to have them when I was a kid.

Hey Cameron, just got finished with "Spring Break" from the Point Horror series. It was good and had some spooks, but I felt sort of the same way you felt about reading towards the end of the book "Small Spaces," the scarecrow book. I felt the one that was causing the spooky activity was not as scary as they seemed when they were finally revealed. It was good overall, but it didn't scare me to the edge. You don't have to take my word for it if you haven't read it, what scares some people, may not scare others. I recommend it for you, if you haven't read it.

I’ve never read any Fear Street books… I felt that I was too old by the time they originally came out and I had read a lot of adult horror books by that time. I now own two random titles since the movies were announced (The Best Friend & Switched). I did however love the first movie. It was as a fab mix of Scream, 90’s nostalgia by way of a Christopher Landon movie . Amazingly paced, great characters just a ton of fun to watch. Can’t wait for part 2 though the trailer might have given away a little too much. Hope the full-time hours aren’t too taxing and don’t stress too much about posting videos, anyone who doesn’t respect you have to make a living isn’t worth worry about. Stay healthy & creepy. M

Having never read any FEAR STREET books, and therefore coming to the movie with no emotional attachment or pre-conceived notions, I have to say I really enjoyed FEAR STREET: 1994. A really fun romp of a teen slasher - well-made and well-paced, good characters, some great gory set-pieces, and the story went off in some unexpected directions, which I really liked (which was definitely an advantage of not having read the books, because it meant I was genuinely surprised rather than expecting/hoping for what I guess are certain fan-pleasing elements to be included). Overall, this was great fun, and I'm definitely looking forward to parts 2 and 3.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was! I'm coming from an unusual angle with it in the sense that I'm a Fear Street newbie and also hardly ever watch horror films. I thought the actual cast was great (loved the diversity) even though I found a lot of the characters unlikeable at first, and that made the first thirty minutes or so a bit of a chore to get through. They managed to grow on me during the rest of the thing, though, and that made the final act really impactful and shocking. It was the best segment of the whole movie. The opening scene was equally great (shoutout to how you totally predicted the Scream homage here) and the thing as a whole was just beautifully shot. I've seen the soundtrack praised a lot and I agree that the song choices were excellent but their usage throughout the movie just seemed very random. Especially at the beginning where they would just play like five or so seconds of a song that was popular back then before immediately jumping onto the next popular song. It just seemed very "listen we have the license for all these songs we gotta use them just put them in" to me. A minor gripe, all in all, but still. Even though I've yet to read a Fear Street book (working on it) I got the sense that this probably isn't the ideal introduction to the franchise. But I'm glad fans of the books are digging it and accepting it for what it is. Anyway these vlogs are still great, Cameron. I hope you can keep on doing them!

it definitely was a little strange to be named 1994 given where most of the inspiration is pulled from, which is in fact, the mid-late '90s, but overall i fell in love with the movie from the getgo and it was pretty shocking how far they went with some of the scenes. hopefully this trilogy is just the beginning. i never got a chance to read the original fear street series growing up, and you make me want to pick it up! it seems like most of the books are accessible digitally, so i'm looking forward to giving it a go.

I was really really into the fear street movie, like just as a movie it was amazing. I’m pretty much in the same boat as many others. I really enjoyed so many aspects of the film and was lukewarm on some. The gore was well done and I loved the opening scene and credits. I feel as though the film was marketed towards the demographic who read the books when they were originally released. Maybe that’s why they went with an R rating? Even though the main characters are all teens. And in true YA fashion, the adults were mostly absent or uninvolved. I mean where were they during the fight scene and bus scene? Still, I’m looking forward to part two!

The "Easter egg" I noticed was in 94, when Goode fills out the police report for the killings at the hospital, he dates it 2/3/95 also Josh states Ruby Lane was killing 30 years ago in 1965. So... I guess the film takes place in 95. Cool

I was so worried about the movies but… I kind of loved it? Yes, there are errors and it’s clearly not a faithful adaptation but the vibe is very Fear Street. It’s nostalgic but also very 2021. I literally yelled with joy to see queer representation and ethnic and racial diversity among the cast (Stine’s books are pretty homogeneous if I remember correctly). I do hope they tie the stories more closely into the Street itself.
@SpongeyTheEditor3 жыл бұрын
The Stepsister: I quite like this one, the first quarter or so has some of the best stuff in the series, it feels a bit more real than usual. The mid section gets kinda standard but it's not bad. The reveal of who it is works and defies the evil step sister thing it was building up. Even the sequel was good but that's for another time. Ski Weekend: I like it. Don't recall a ton to say, even though I read it not too long ago. Lie the isolation, it moves well and it has some smart bits from the lead which I like. Liked the rare bit of swearing and the villains were effective. Lou sure was...creepy though lol. Overall, just a good one. Saga: Haven't re-read it yet, but I'll get to it come August. I remember digging the sagas a lot, Stine usually does stuff set in the past well so I'm excited. Movie: I almost lead with this but the other sections weren't too long so I went in order. I felt about the same pretty fun but I too found the lack of Fear Street itself weird. I thought I missed something and even I did, it should have been more important. I'm not as uppity on changes as much as others, cuz while I am a fan, I'm more critical and not super attached so I don't see it as a sacred cow and think being a purist about changes in this is a bit silly compared to other film adaptions. Plus, it's a more general take and not one to one so being different is to be expected and I think avoiding going hardcore into certain tropes made it kinda an improvement in some ways. But a few things aside, it was a fun thrill ride, which is what the books usually strike for. And I appreciate the gay protagonist as well, neat addition to the franchise there. The 1978 one should be interesting, I'm re-reading Lights Out at the moment and while I like it, I can tell the movie may end up being better if only for hopefully certain annoying characters/elements lol. Looking forward to seeing how the 1600's one fares, the vibe should be cool to see, I'm less of a stickler for changes and while I get some have to be done here, I hope certain stuff from the saga trilogy makes it, I am expecting some curve balls from what they were setting up so that should be fun. Seeing the passion some have on social media, for the books and the film is really neat, as well posts from the cast/crew, gives me more respect and love for all the folks.

i was so baffled at the fact that they don’t even show fear street lmao i thought the acting was horrible and the random drug dealing plot line was not fear street at all. it was okay as a movie. i wasn’t really that amazed by it. it felt like they copied the same plot of goosebumps with them dealing with all the “monsters” except it was serial killers instead. i’ll still give the other two a shot, but i’m not getting my hopes up

@@rjgilmore5019 haha yes exactly, I feel like the reviews have been so good and i'm like huh????? there's honestly so much wrong with it. the music was not even all from 1994 or earlier and felt randomly placed in to be like HEY IT'S THE 90's!! also the lesbian love story didn't feel genuine to me and kinda felt like pandering. and don't get me started on using an epipen to bring home girl back to life lmfaooo
