@@rananajjar Thank you for welcoming me! Okay, so like it was so slow in the beginning and the way she writes the main character, it just seems like she wanted her to be very innocent, but it didn't come off that way, so when I finished the book, I was like okay so she killed him, because it was never revealed if she was guilty or not. We are just told that she was "found innocent", but SHE WAS THERE the night of the murder. Like she didn't have that alibi. And then I find this out about the author, and I was like so shocked because it all matches up.

Her book forty rules of love is full of wrong ideas about Islam from the point of view of Sufism. It's basically destroy everything about Islam in the name of "love". Like drinking alcohol and having sexual interaction with the opposite sex is acceptable.

I loved this! The funniest deadpan video ever. I'll never read that Dune author, Game of Thrones author, Devney Perry (romance author with annoying skanky heroines (and heroes) in ALL her books) or Nalini Singh (paranormal and scifi romances that don't feel romantic to me at all). And so many more, but those come immediately to mind.

I didn't use to enjoy sci-fi but have for the last few years. Put simply once i discovered sci-fi that wasn't written by white American men, it was a lot easier to appreciate how differently the genre is done by different authors. Eg I recommend Aliette de Boddard who writes space opera.

Trust me, the only thing you missed by not reading ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ was a bad book. Sometimes when I become aware of an author who I might find objectionable on a personal level but I want to read their book, I buy used. The author doesn’t get the money, it helps the circular economy, and I find out if I like the writing or not. I’m totally with you on the romance. Graphic sex is showing up in so many awkward places these days…eek. I’m also not really into magical realism.

I didn't know that stuff about Jay Kristoff... but. The man dips into cringe far too often for my taste, and there's his tendency to copy-paste modern mannerisms and what I can best describe as thought patterns-slash-cultural memes that are incredibly immersion-breaking. So you're not missing very much. I read The Flea Palace by Elif Shafak and she falls into the category of "I don't like what I know about her" for me. And she's VERY orientalist. Always a bad look when an author gives her own culture the orientalism treatment to better sell it to a foreign audience. As to sci-fi, you might have slightly better luck with standalones from the New Wave era. But of course, I don't know what part of sci-fi that turns you off. Like for instance, I'm not particularly fond of action-y, politicky space operas, but I love thought experiment-like sci-fi. I'd recommend you the science fantasy Hyperion Cantos because the first book at least has an episodic feel with several different genres, but it doesn't do a very good job of explaining itself in the first two volumes (and the last two... ergh, they're controversial among readers). Its author Dan Simmons is just very good though, as a whole. I must say I totally agree with you in your assessment of romance novels. I can't stand pointless drama, I avoid it like the plague in my own life. I have little reason to read it if it doesn't come with a solid, non-drama attached. And those books who have an excuse plot just to have two characters bang every twenty pages. And the romances in them often also just suck, what with being window dressing for the sex. At least erotica is honest. Sarah J. Maas is that author I'll never read. Oh, one more thing and this'll be the last. You said you didn't like reading long series but I see the Stormlight Archive on your shelf

On the subject of Science Fiction, I have never been a fan of it, but my brother is, and when he suggested I read 'The Door Into Summer' by Robert A. Heinlein, I absolutely loved it!! It's not a long read, nor is it a highly 'technical' read, as science fiction books go, but it is so good! It's basically about time travel cryogenics and is set in the 1970s and there is a cat in it called Pete who is so funny. I'd love for you to give this genre one more try, with this particular book, because I think you would find Robert Heinlein's writing very entertaining. Just a suggestion. Love your videos. I'm a new subscriber.
