@@trulyyoursshinchan Wouldn‘t agree with that entirely. 🤔Not sure but I could imagine teenagers would think his taste in literature is rather boring. I‘m just 3 years older than him and I think his personality and especially the kind of literature he reads really fits quite well, also for older people in their 30s 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m not sure those exist, however I’ve read Norwegian Wood and After Dark and loved both of them. Especially After Dark, it follows a few people who start off as strangers over the course of one night, and keeps cutting back to someone else who’s stuck in some mysterious place. I don’t think I quite understand what happened, but the concept and the style of narration was really cool.

I really enjoyed Concerning My Daughter too! I have so many thoughts on it, but I’ll try not to unload here or I’ll be typing all day. I found it was a bit hard to read due to a lack of quotation marks, but I think this works really well for the novel as a whole as I feel like it represents how insular the protagonist is - I mean I did spend the entire novel flipping between hating and pitying the protagonist but I think this is more realistic than many novels as it shows how complex people are. Would love to hear Jack’s thoughts on it (even if he hates it lol) - it’s a bit of a divisive read, but one I loved.

Brandi Carlile is a queer Americana singer whose memoir Broken Horses is a perfect audiobook experience. Each chapter relates a different time in her life, centred around how these moments became songs, and then at the end of the chapter she sings the song in question. There's a section about grief and how it changes the way we remember people that's just stunning, as is this quote: "I have seen trembling, filthy forgiveness bring light into a dark world like nothing else can."

YES JACK! It’s amazing seeing you pick up a book by a Somali writer (The fortune men) Our country has so many unheard voices and with such a rich history seeing more Somali writers come into the lime light is absolutely amazing. If you do enjoy it I highly recommend reading “bless the daughter raised by a voice in her head” by Warsan Shire. It’s a poetry collection documenting youth in the Somali diaspora and the first generation of migrants struggling to fit into the UK and losing touch with their culture in the arms of the west. It’s also a major ode to girlhood and the awkwardness women in the diaspora face with their parents and how they don’t cross boundaries into personal lives leaving girls to discover who they are through a skewed sense of love and trials and tribulations

I’m indeed one of those people saying Just Kids is one of their favourite books :p In my reading experience it was especially a memoir about her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe, and to me it felt like a love letter to him and their friendship, less about her career, although it of course intermingles. I also thought the writing was amazing, and it even left me in tears at the end! And because of the book i started to appreciate her music even more. But that’s my opinion. ;)
