I decided to read Mitch Albom's The Little Liar a few weeks ago because it showed up as highly rated on GR...so, not knowing anything more, I got it from my library. Little did I know I'd be bawling at the end. Wet-faced and shoulder's shaking. I had only had that reaction to The Book Thief. They are both similar in many ways, but I guess I grew attached to the characters a lot more than I had expected!

A book has never made me cry,but I was hugely moved by Wit. The scene between the professor and her mentor is the most heart-breaking thing I’ve ever seen. I’d like to have a good cry when I read a book but it’s just hasn’t happened yet.bin the same way I’ve never laughed when I’ve read a book. It drives me crazy when book blurbs say it kept the reader up all night. That has to be the silliest thing I’ve ever heard.

Wit is deeply emotional. Crying and laughing out loud are difficult emotions for a book to provoke but there have been many examples for me.

Loved these recommendations. Wondering if you ever read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. By far my favorite in this category...

Did you ever read the book you mentioned as a highly recommended TBR one “A Fine Balance?” All I can say is don’t be listening to the last chapter of the audiobook driving on the 405 in LA during rush hour, I’m weeping and driving, but you can’t even pull over in a 12 lane highway, I’m shocked I didn’t cause a pileup.

In Wit, what destroyed me was the section where her old professor reads her “Runaway Bunny,” it broke my heart.

The only book that ever made me cry, I think, was The Color Purple. John Boyne is a great writer.

It takes a lot for anything to make me cry, but one book that definitely upset me was Can You Hear the Nightbird Call? by Anita Rau Badami. It's about real life events to which only made it more emotional. She has such a way with characters that makes you feel like they are real people.
