mark doty is a hero of mine....and one. of the essential poets of mentoring generation...and yes, the Clampitt book is fabulous (and under appreciated and unvervalued poet)....ive just sent you 3 poetry collections sb....including my favorite Doty...ok, enjoy them...off the internet for the rest of the weekendd...

I don’t know what you think of John Ashbery, Scott, but he was still writing good stuff in the 21st Century. ‘Chinese Whispers’ is a book I often go back to. Wacky and wonderful stuff for those with a taste for the strange.

I like Ashbery a lot, too, and replaced all my individual volumes with the big two volume LOA edition last year.

@@Scottmbradfield I was surprised that Ashbery was forgotten so soon. I will have to invest in that big edition at some point. Another poet missing is JH Prynne; he’s a controversial figure, but I have to say I’ve been knocked out by his 2015 Poems, he will be remembered when so many of these names are lost . But these lists are driven by fashion.

@@Scottmbradfield If you get the chance, read Prynne’s poem ‘Refuse Collection’, on the Abu Ghraib atrocities. It’s not really representative of his work as a whole, but it is exceptionally powerful. On the list. I think maybe the ‘Citizen’ book was a poem. Pretty pathetic decision to more or less exclude poetry, though.

Hello! Such a great video! I recently watched a video of yours where you reviewed Nine Stories by Salinger, where you pointed out that all the basic techniques of writing are clearly showed there. Would you consider making a video about books similar to that one, where one can clearly see all the basic writing techniques?
