So true!!! The lovely 1985 version is much better than this modern trash. When I watched Anne with an E I was completely in outrage in how they deviated from the true story of Anne of Green Gables. They made it so dark and modern that they twisted the spirit of the story.

Anne of Green Gables 1985 is elite. Gilbert Blithe awoken me.

Yeah. Anne With an E is TERRIBLE!!! The only versions I would stick to are the 1985 and the 1979 anime series Akage no Anne. You can actually watch the anime series on youtube. Someone uploaded all the episodes on HD. Though it's in Japanese with English subtitles. But I still love it!

There was no chemistry between the actors who played Anne and Gilbert.

Thank you! This series is so stupid. Have you ever seen Akage No Anne? It's as close as you can get to a perfect adaptation of Anne Of Green Gables.

I agree! I haven't read all of the Anne books, but I grew up watching the 1985 TV series. I was looking forward to this adaptation, but right off the bat I realized this show was taking the original story and characters in an extremely off-road direction. There are some things that I think they do well--some of the aesthetic/artistic choices are interesting, some of the little details in fleshing out characters like Gilbert and Marilla that you mention. I think modernizing is OK, but I also think there's a way to do it without undermining the core aspects of the characters, and they definitely didn't need to be so heavy-handed about it. The feminism, specifically, is not subtle at all in this show and some people will respond better to that method of storytelling. But I think the source material has enough of the core traits of feminism that modernizing would have just meant enhancing those to appeal to ALL aspects of femininity, as we know it, without deriding one or two (i.e. marriage and family) in the process. Little Women (2019) is a good example of a modern take on an adaptation, I think. It felt loyal to the source material but also fresh for modern audiences. Anyway, good talk!. (I'm aurorasbookstash on IG, btw. :-))

@@aurorasbookstash I may not have read any of the books but your opinion is respected besides we all know what adaptation diserves to be called adaptation of the books ever made and that is the direct to home video animated film the journey to green gables which was along with that garbage animated series (not the anime and yes there is an anime adaptation I'm just as shocked as you ) that aired on PBS kids in the 2000,s.

Nothing like going home after a long work week sitting down with a drink and some snacks to have feminist agendas pushed down your throat

I still don't respect your opinion but the people who accuse me of being a troll are more brutal than I am do you think getting there reaction from going against me bashing you I am not trying to be a troll I am trying to defend the show I enjoy dark and depressing movies and shows and this is not all doom and gloom it has some light hearted moments I may not have read the books but I think it is the most soupier adaptation of the works of Lucy Maude Montgomery for going in more gritty aspect but I will admit it's not all perfect there are a few episodes that I didn't really like but it is in my eyes one of the greatest Netflix shows the show from the 80,s is not the trash adaptation but it's harmless. But from my abusive comments I sent you though I still don't respect your opinion but I just wanted to say I'm sorry 😔😔😔😔 and never see me again (And to the three who said I was a troll I want to say to you if any of you read this wy don't any of you go look in the mirror for once)
