I got Educated on Audible and I can't wait to listen. I've never really thought about my favourite books of the year before, which is weird! Consulting my Goodreads now. I read 51 books in 2018 and I think my favourites are 'The Rerigerator Monologues' by Catherynne M Valente, 'When I Hit You' by Meena Kandesamy and 'The Grapes of Wrath' by John Steinbeck. I read a lot of books this year that had been on my shelf for a while. I liked most of what I read but not much that I really loved. I think that's less to do with the books I read, and more to do with the fact that the more I read, the harder I am to please! This year I've made a resolution not to buy any more books until I've cut my TBR pile at least in half. If I want to read something I don't own I either have to borrow it from a library or buy it digitally. I just don't have any more space! Let's see how that goes... Happy new year. Happy reading in 2019! x

Congrats on hitting your reading challenge! At 48 books, I was two short on my goal. I haven't read any on your list but I have The Boneless Mercies on my shelf calling my name. I hope your new year's off to a great start!

Yay! A Dutch person on booktube! Came across your channel by accident. Congrats on having so many followers! Hope I'll love your channel, at least you seem to read some book that are different from what I keep on seeing on booktube all the time. Lots of love from a fellow Dutch woman in Germany

Dankjewel for all thos years of dedication en je positiviteit en inspiratie. Een mooi en avontuurlijk 2019 toegewenst!

Another great video! That's an impressive number of books to have read...I don't have a very good tracking system. Really love the cover for The Boneless Mercies...very eye-catching.

I love watching these, was excited to see it popped up on my feed. I am going to throw a bunch of these on my library holds! I enjoyed Educated but not as much as everyone else seemed to. I found her style changed too much between home and school times.

I've read Educated, too and it is really incredible. It's one of my favourite reads of 2018 although it was kind of hard. I thought about the childhood and teenage years of Tara a lot after reading the book.

On the topic of the Golden State Killer. It turns out my aunt and uncle had lived around the corner from him for awhile but didn't know until he was arrested this past year.

Don’t Call Us Dead is amazing! It’s on my favourites list as well. So glad you enjoyed it. Ooh you’ve made me excited to read On Chesil Beach😊

Nice!! I added some of these to my TBR. My reading year was amazing in 2018, I read 25 books (which is a lot for me, but to be fair I had a lot of free time). My favourites of 2018 were mostly books I re-read (LOTR, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma...), but among "new" ones my favourites were Persuasion (still by Jane Austen haha), Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Since I won't have as much free time in 2019 my goal is only at 10 books (but hopefully I'll be able to read more).

Thank you for great tips! Will definitely include some of those into my to read list :D I think Ian McEvan was my discovery of the year - I have read On Chesil beach, loved how he writes and catches what people feel, and went on to finally read the Atonement. I was always slightly put off by the high prise, but it seriously is a beautiful book. I was deeply touched and sort of emotionally shattered by the conclusion - which probably won’t happen if you have seen the movie. But if not, I can’t recommend it enough.

My favorite book of the year was definitely Annihilation! I read it in one sitting, couldn’t put it down. It made me want to read more sci-fi. Sadly, it’s taken me months to read the sequel, but apparently the third book is amazing so I gotta push through it! I’m dying to read Educated. It’s definitely up my alley haha

Don't Call Us Dead is wonderful. My top novel read in 2018 is A Gentleman In Moscow. Trying to have a nonfiction TBR in 2019, so adding Educated to the list.

Haven't read any oh those books but a couple are on my tbr list. I absolutely loved "and absolutely remarkable thing". I also read "Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine" which was brilliantly written and really rough at points and I basically read the entire Peter Grant series from Ben Aaronovitch which I completely fell in love with :)

Really enjoyed this video! I read On Chesil Beach in 2017 or 2018 too and totally agree with you. Ordered Educated a while ago, so that will be next up for me, I think. :) Some of the other books you mentioned will be going on my to read list!

I've never read any Shirley Jackson and I keep meaning to as I feel like she's a writer I'll love. So happy to see some love for Don't Call Us Dead! It's absolutely brilliant and Danez is the most incredible performer. And I just finished reading Educated recently. Brilliant! The Boneless Mercies sounds incredible! Adding it to my list. I've never heard of Geis (Gesh?) before and I adore graphic novels. How Do You Like Me Now? sounds like exactly the kind of book I need in my life right now that can speak to me. I also really enjoyed On Chesil Beach (book + movie). I'll Be Gone in the Dark doesn't sound like my kind of read HOWEVER you sold me. I'll proceed to book my stay at a lock-less cabin in the woods. I uploaded my book-favorites video as on my channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ21gaNpqsx4ZtE Can't wait to see your resolutions video (it'll give me ideas for my own life)!

This was such an interesting and varied list. Wow, How do You like Me Now sounds fascinating. I remember I wanted to pick it up in your 30 list and one of your points on was on going to the dentist and I got distracted and went to the dentist. But I'll add it to my TBR and hopefully this time I'll stay focused.
