This video was great, thank you for sharing abit about you and being giving us such an honest review. I would love to know more about what you thought about the science. I was thinking of using bookshark for k science, because my son loves anything science related.

WeLoveJones I will definitely do a review after we use it. It seems like it will be wonderful for a kid that loves science. They have a great science kit, DVDs, lesson plans, and worksheets that go with it.

Yes. Level Pre K is more appropriate for Kindergarten. We are going to use Sonlight's PreK for my 5 year old boy :) Those books are amazing! :) Oh my goodness! I hadn't heard the whole video. Yes! I am more comfortable with Messianic Jewish beliefs as well and I even love the wisdom in Hasidic Jeudaism. Please share with us how you celebrate the feasts! :)

I love Winnie the Pooh. I like the younger kids books though. I tried a little bit of the actual chapter book and it wasn't that great.

A little advice if you may. My son is just turning 5 and he’s a proficient reader. He’s reading at a very high level with fluency. He’s also writing but not as great as his reading. Would u rec skipping level k language arts or should we still do it?
@MommaSchmoozeReviews
@MommaSchmoozeReviews 5 жыл бұрын
I would definitely look at their level 1 language arts and check out their assessment tests to see where he is at. I think I made the mistake of assuming level k was at my daughter's level but she was a year ahead like your son(but she wasn't a solid reader).

So glad you loved the Markable Map and the non-fiction books in your Level K. 💙Here is more about the Reading with History programs→homeschool.bookshark.com/reading-with-history/ Yes! We leave any faith-based teaching (or not) up to you. And it's super that you made the curriculum your own. The Instructor's Guide is just that-a GUIDE. You are the boss and get to choose. Thanks for the thorough overview!

Does Bookshark use secular science or "neutral" science? How do they approach evolution, etc? Great video! This is one of the options I am thinking about for next year.
@MommaSchmoozeReviews
@MommaSchmoozeReviews 5 жыл бұрын
This curriculum is wonderful, we really liked using it. BookShark does not espouse or oppose any faith. Science and History programs do not teach evolution, creationism, or intelligent design theory. So BookShark may be better termed faith-neutral.

This is helpful, I was probably too excited and did not realize to go up a level. Yes, doing an assessment is key when choosing a language arts program! Next time I will for sure be doing this.

It’s not Winnie the Pooh, but my experience with reading the Beatrix Potter stories was similar. I bought a book of a collection of her stories, & I found the stories quite boring & the language is very proper. I LOVED the video series “the world of Peter rabbit & friends” as a child, but the books aren’t as interesting to me. It sucks when you don’t connect with the books as much as the movies/series.

I love Beatrix Potter too. I know sometimes books don't replicate the same memories we had as kids like the videos.

How old was your daughter? Do you think this would work for a 4 year old?
@MommaSchmoozeReviews
@MommaSchmoozeReviews 5 жыл бұрын
i would look into level K or primer for a 4 year old(depends on your child and where they are at...It's hard to recommend since I don't know your child's level or development) My daughter is 6 and will be 7 in Nov and we are still working on level one. In my opinion, I feel it is pretty advanced for a 1st grade. We are only halfway through and I am going slow at her pace since there is a lot to learn for the first time. We will probably be using the same level for the fall in 2nd grade. I hope this helps!

Winnie the Pooh is really hard to read aloud and express the humour adequately. So much of the cleverness of the writing is visual, like the play with words and words falling down to page etc. I think they are better for children to read to themselves when they are older (and when they are adults).

I found Winnie the pooh at the thrift store... I keep meaning to break it open but it looks...boring. so I might skim through it before reading it to them. Our kids are loving the tale of desperaux. They BEG for me to read it. Even my 4 year old picks up things from it. I bought all about reading level 1..and we only did the first 8 lessons because explode the code and Bob books stole my daughter's interest.

priscilla shaw I got to check out the Tale of Despereaux! That's great that she knows what she likes, sometimes the programs we buy don't fit and finding other options works out wonderfully.

With Covid19 I'm looking at homeschooling I've spent so much money on dumb stuff in my life. Spending 1K or whatever once a year is something I'm ok with. Nice thing is that I have a boy and a girl 1 year apart so just need one Level.
