Hi everyone it’s Melissa. I am a homeschooling mom of three kiddos. My husband and I have a 7-year-old, a 3-year-old, and a 1-year-old. Today I am sharing BookShark Science Level A. I go over what BookShark is, what comes with BookShark, how we are using BookShark, and why I love the BookShark Science secular homeschool curriculum.
I recently did a blog post on the BookShark virtual access. The link to that blog post is below. We loved using the virtual access because it makes the physical instructor guide more portable and, in our homeschool, more usable. Virtual access takes all the amazing information inside the inductor guide and placed it at my fingertips on my iPad.
When we first started homeschooling, I was very interested in literature-based curriculums, but I avoided them because I was afraid that it would be very difficult for me to implement as a parent of three small children (two of them are 3 and under). After using BookShark Science Level A I was impressed at how easy BookShark makes everything for the parent and when you add in the virtual access it’s even easier.
BookShark lays everything out for you, they plan everything, they tell you what to read, what activities to do, and what experiment to complete. It is so straightforward and I don’t have to think about any of it. I just open my iPad and click on the day we are on. That’s it, just complete the information on that day and we are done.
I saw a video by Ashlee ‪@gatheredandgroundedhomeschool‬ where she labeled her BookShark books. I thought this was ingenious and went ahead and labeled our books as well. I labeled each book with “BookShark” “Science A” and “#”. The # was just the order in which BookShark laid out that we read each book. As we progress, I will add “Read Aloud” or “Reader” to my labels, but that wasn’t something I needed for BookShark Science A.
We have been truly enjoying BookShark Science A. We love that BookShark is secular and I love how easy BookShark makes implement the curriculum.

I am reallllyyyyyy considering switching to bookshark but I might wait till next year at this point since I already have my stuff but I just love how laid out it is and that they’re all books with fiction thrown in!

Did you continue to use bookshark after this science level and did you try any of their other subjects? What were your reasons for not continuing, if you didn't?

What is in the experiment paper packet?

Do you mean the experiment guidebook? If it was something I said (which it sounds like something I would say :) ) then I was referring to the guidebook included in Science Level A. It's a teacher and student guide that walks you through each of the experiments.

On their website it says experiment paper packet haha. I was wondering what that was since there is no description but from what you said it sounds like the paper packet is extra student sheets because they’re already included in the experiment guide. Is that right? I was just wondering if I could get away with one set with two kids doing it and I think I can.

Lol. Okay. That makes sense. Yes, it’s just the consumables sheets; lol if you want sheets for each child. Honestly we either make photocopies or we answer verbally so we haven’t had a need for them yet in our homeschool.

I can RELATE to this!! I am having a hard time with science for this purpose and that is why I am considering BookShark. I can read outloud ALL DAY. I have no issues with it. And we LOVE BookShark history so I think we will love literature-based science too.
