I'm the reader in the family or what my mother calls, ''the intelligent one'' and I've been into books before I could even read. My grandfather had his own library that took up an entire wall of the office; health, medical, fiction, non-fiction, self-help, war, references, languages, etc. He would make corrections in the dictionary and highlight words in medical books, leave sticky notes on random pages for further correction, all that. His prized possession was his own set of the Great Works, an anniversary gift given to him by my grandmother. He's passed on now but, it seems I take after him. I own his Great Work set now and I want to build my library again. After moving so many times, I just figured I would put things on kindle and give away the rest for less hassle when moving. I'll build my world again soon..just need the proper bookcases to do it. Fantastic collection!

+ESWilliams09 Some words that he felt could be expanded on, corrections that were better to understand. Take the word ''cup'' and expand on it. He would not just settle for the just drinking type; he would put in ''cup- to fold hands with open palms; hence 'cupped' hands'' Another thing he did was highlight the words or circle them in pencil and put variations: favor = favour.

the first book in the his dark materials triology is actualy called Northen Lights and not The Golden Compass is a comon error because after the movie was released under that name a lot of publishers started to publish it with the movie title istead of the original title that Phillip Pullman gave to the book back in 1995.

It was published in North America under the name "The Golden Compass" in 1996, so it's not just because of the movie. Northern Lights is definitely the real name but it's more of a "Philosopher's Stone/Sorcerer's Stone" situation than it is a situation of the movie influencing the publishers. 😊

I remember having that issue in my parents house! I could only fit one half shelf and it led to books being in piles allllllll over my floor. My dad used to freak out at me all the time because he couldn't walk in my room haha!

Yes! I have a hardcover rainbow (so they're all the same height) and the second rainbow are my paperback books.
