You have some cool purchases there, Paul. My local 'proper' second hand book shop closed years ago. It was one of those dark, mysterious places at the end of an enclosed tunnel of shops. It was full of treasures you could pick up for a pittance. It is sad that those places are disappearing from town centres.

it's terrible, that we have so fewer second hand bookshops

This is so funny. My cat Thomas, began running around the house, looking out windows. Where is that cat I hear? says he.

Atticus Bookshop still survives in time-honoured Lancaster. Bowland Forever 1991.

Sadly, there are no dedicated second hand bookshops near me in Rhode Island. Next time I come across the pond, I will organize a proper crawl of some of the shops I’ve heard of. I think you guys just do them better in the UK.

Come to Maine. There's the Chicken Barn in Ellsworth. Antiques on the bottom floor and books on the bottom. In Camden there's a very cool, crowded second hand bookshop. You have to climb a narrow staircase to get there. Can't remember the name of the store, but you'll find it. I think it's Stone Soup Books.

That Megan Bradbury sounds 100% up my alley, the layers of history like sedimentary rock laid down in striations you can see if something exposes the layers. It's Monday 12:20 am, so time to go to sleep - but I'll look online for that book first!

Speaking of this type of book, have you read 'Alice in Sunderland's by Bryan Talbot? It looks at Lewis Carroll's links to Sunderland as well as other historical aspects of the area (with a cameo by William Hartnell). It's a graphic novel, with sometimes very dense pages in terms of both art and information. Given your forthcoming Who/Oz book, might be of even more interest

"doctor who in AI generated, with not interested actors, wonderland" Seriously though, looks like you are massive busy, stay peaked and look after yourself. And take brain time out to focus on nothing, or like a desert island to escape kind of thing. Sounds like bookshops and videos are your release and escape.
