I feel like Aidan Turner has a clause in his contracts that says he has to be shirtless at least once 😂 I don’t know where you can watch it in the states but my favourite cosy mystery show is Death in Paradise. It’s a BBC drama set on a Caribbean island and the mysteries are really cleverly plotted. Great cast too.

I have been an acorn tv fan for a very long time and the programs you talked about are some of my favorites as well. Love Midsomer Murders, love And then there were none, love Miss Fisher! One program you did not talk about is Murdoch Mysteries. This program was my introduction to Acorn Tv and started my journey to all the other wonderful programs they broadcast. It is a unique program among the other murder mystery shows about a police detective named William Murdoch and his associates from station house 4 and a woman ME set at the end of the 1800. So much fun, and Murdoch is a bit of a science nerd and is always inventing new ways to solve the mystery using science. I love the other characters in the show, each one has a storyline you are able to follow. Lots of humor and adorableness in this one as well as interesting crimes involving people of historical significance. Give it a try-I love it as well. Oh, I forgot to tell you the show is set in Toronto Canada. I was there one time to see where it is filmed so that was fun for me.

I think the drug party scene in And Then There Were None was a great addition because it added to the paranoia and confusion later on. The drugs, alcohol and fear combined was the final nail in the coffin for the remaining characters. It also showed the complete breakdown in social etiquette

My Mom and I binged Agatha Raisin and loved it! It's a great, not replacement but, vibe adjacent show to Rosemary and Thyme which is our favorite cozy murder mystery TV show. (Sadly it got cancelled, buts so much fun to watch that it's one we come back to all the time.🙃)

Murdoch mysteries is a gem and I suggest that if you get the chance to watch it you should. It was actually introduced to me by a random woman who sat next to me on a flight and she wasn’t wrong when she said it was a wonderful show.

Agree with you about Murdoch!!! I love that show. I once saw a special where they had part of the Toronto Orchestra come to “the station” and play some amazing music that Murdoch introduced to the audience. So unique in the concept! That is what I really love about it, they think outside the box in their creation for the episodes.

So funny, I had a real slump a week or so ago after several months of Delta lockdown in NZ and found myself watching Agatha Raisin and Midsomer Murders on Acorn TV without ever having seen your video! We love the adaptations of Agatha Christie, they've become a showcase for well-known UK (mainly) actors and actresses. I do love Kim Catrall (so sad they didn't continue with Sensitive Skin).

I haven't read the short story version of Witness for the Prosecution so I didn't know about the 2 endings! all I've seen is the original movie and I actually really liked that ending, but maybe part of that is because it's the first/only one I've seen? I did however know about the 2 endings of And Then There Were None, despite never seeing or reading it. I think I remember reading that by the time she was working on the play version Christie found the ending too dark, especially for audiences during WWII, so that's why she changed it. This was such a fun cozy video to watch! And I can't get over how adorable your kitties are! 😍

I think you would really like Rosemary & Thyme. It’s a British tv series about 2 ladies who are gardeners and they solve mysteries. It has beautiful British garden settings and small town murder mysteries. I loved it. It’s currently available on prime. Now I’m off to watch and then there were none! :)

Fun video! I love Midsomer Murders! It is one of my favorites. The early ones are of their time but there is something about the vibe and atmosphere. I'm not sure what the newer ones are like bc I'm still making my way through them. I also love Agatha Raisin, Queen's of Mystery and Miss Fisher. I've read the Miss Fisher books but I prefer the show.

This was very timely for me! I've been planning on getting Acorn to continue with Midsomer Murders which I was watching on another service, and I didn't realize they had several Christie adaptations. You're spot on with your Midsomer review; I think of it as police procedural meets cozy mystery meets Tales from the Crypt. (And as someone who also has an autoimmune condition, I hope your flare is short lived!)

i‘ve watched all the „old“ MMM; those with john nettle and loved most of them. some of them get really really dark, so much so that i have to skip them when rewatching. i enjoy spotting all the guest stars (orlando bloom, julie stevenson etc.). i never got into the reboot, after neil dudgeon took over. though i absolutely love neil dudgeon; he was great in „the mrs. bradley mysteries“ with the inimitable diana rigg. it is such a shame that acorn tv is not available in europe. the non-uk part of it, i mean. i would love that and am thoroughly jealous. 🔎 hope you’re feeling better! lots of love from austria, monica 🐾🐾📚

I previously commented on this video, but I was thinking that you might like McMillan & Wife. It is a US mystery show from the 70s with a husband and wife duo. The husband is the commissioner of the San Francisco police and is played by Rock Hudson. The wife is played by Susan Saint James and I honestly always wanted to be her growing up.

I don't know if you've ever watched the *Rosemary and Thyme* amateur sleuthing series. It may be up your alley. I have seen Cadfael, also the Miss Fisher Mystery series years ago but never felt compelled to re-watch them. I think I need to give any well known Agatha Christie story adaptations a wide berth for a bit after the last major TV adaptation of Marple and Partners in Crime.

Great video. 💓 i really like Agatha raisin and midsomer murders glad you enjoyed them. If you like Agatha raisin I would also recommend Shakespeare and Hathaway. It’s more on the fun side with shorter more colorful and fun stories and has always something to do with Shakespeare and his works in some way. Also Les Petits Meurtres d'Agatha Christie (The Little Murders of Agatha Christie; Agatha Christie's Criminal Games) wich is a french Series that’s plays depending on the season in a different period. I really like the second seasons/part that takes place in the 60‘s it’s portrayal is a bit over the top a Times but the setting is great with all the 60‘s scenery and everything. (I watched it in German so I hope it is also available in English sorry if not 😅) Also maybe you already watched it but Murder by Death is a great movie. It basically uses tropes and characters from the „mystery scene“ and makes an kind of over the top satire of it. The cast is amazing and really funny. Highly recommend it.

Hey I live in Scotland and love a good mystery as well and truly believe British tv was made for the cozy mystery genre, Agatha Christie series with Joan hickson is the best she also narrates audible which is fun, midsummer murders, Vera, the coroner, grant Chester the list goes on. Then the more grittier waking the dead, blood on a wire ( screen adaption of val McDermott books), broadchurch. X

I also really liked that adaptation of And Then There Were None. I had tried the first 3 or so episodes of Midsomer Murders a few years back and actually lost steam because I felt I could predict those reveals where the suspect/victim turns out to be secretly [insert problematic representation that they just saw as titillating scandal at the time]. Maybe I will give it another try. Not sure if it's on Acorn, but have you seen any of the show Endeavor? I highly recommend it!

Your description of the groovy version of And then There Were None reminded me of a movie called The Last of Sheila. It’s kind of a closed circle mystery on a yacht in the mid 1970’s. The cast is great and it was similar in suggesting people were affiliated with various crimes or, at that time, shameful behaviors.

Yes, M. C. Beaton writes the Agatha Raisin series which is a bit like Miss Marple and she also writes the Hamish Macbeth series which is also a lot of fun. The Agatha Raisin series is a fun watch. The cozy craziness does come out well in the book series too. Midsomer Murders does give some OG Law and Order vibes. Murder She Wrote always reminds me of my grandmother. 😂 Oh, how she loved that series. I watch it just for the nostalgia factor alone it is worth it. 😍 I'll have to give these Agatha Christie adaptations a watch. I'm such a Simp for David Suchet though that no other Poirot has ever measured up for me.

Agatha Raisin reminded me, I saw a mystery category on wikipedia called "culinary mystery" which is like that, cozy and food related, so I went to storygraph looking for it. Among a few I found Secrets, Lies, & Crawfish pies by Abby L Vandiver. I haven't read it yet but it's there.. one day I wil.. Two of my favorite things after all, mystery and food. If there's a cat in it I'll be very happy, two of my favorite mystery-media from my region are extra close to me because of either cats or delicious descriptions of food lol..

My main issue with the BBC And Then There Were None adaptation is that the killer's explanation of how they carried it off is never explained fully. I've read the book a hundred times so I knew but my family members didn't and were a bit confused about certain elements

I go to the theatre in London a lot and have got into the odd habit of checking TV and Film casts list for actors that I've seen on stage (it's based on a spreadsheet and pretty automatic). With Midsomer Murders it appears I've seen over 1100 of the actors that have appeared in the series since 1997 I would recommend reading the Caroline Graham books that inspired the series but the TV went through those books really quickly. MC Beaton was an immensely prolific author. The Agatha Raisin books are on my TBR but I have read a number of her Hamish Macbeth series. They are a quick and cozy read. A TV series of Hamish Macbeth was made but cast Robert Carlyle in the title role and he is nothing like the character books. Under her "real name" of Marion Chesney, MC Beaton wrote a number of Regency Romances which might be worth a look.

I don't think I can ever forgive Sarah Phelps for butchering "The Pale Horse" for the BBC. The production and creepiness were there but she insisted on changing things for the sake of changing. As one of Christie's better effort in her later years, Sarah could have played the whole superstition subtext which she did but it got undermined by changing plot points altogether

I only watched the ABC Murders adaptation and did not enjoy the interpretation of Poirot and felt she added in unnecessary character drama so decided not to watch the others though I was curious on the And Then There Were None adaptation as I am not as attached to that novel. Reading reviews for her adaptations it seems most people did not enjoy any of them.

I would support your choice not to read the Agatha Raisin books. I read 3 of them but stopped as I didn’t like the way some of the female characters were written. The TV show sounds much more fun.
