I also didn’t finish The Violin Conspiracy. I was pumped that it was a mystery with clues based in music theory. Sadly, I couldn’t get past about the 2nd chapter. I did love Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky! Glad you liked it.

I'm here for you clearing your TBR AND showering us with these awesome vlogs! I'm going to go watch the last one when I'm done with this one. I love this idea though of getting excited about older TBR titles by making them a part of current/seasonal theme. I've been working my way through the more recent build-up in my physical TBR, but I think when I get to the older stuff I will be using this method.

I highly recommend Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenuah. It's a speculative short story collection with themes about race and racism. I read this years ago, and these stories still stick with me

I too am on an owned TBR mission this year and love this syle of vlog! I highly recommend reading the 3rd book in the Cowboys of California series A Thorne in the Saddle 💚🤠 It's good!!

In a grad seminar I took on conversion we read both Augustine's Confessions and Malcolm X so it's an apt comparison!

I do hope you read The Vanishing Half at some point. I picked it up thinking it was a mystery 🤦‍♀️ there’s a missing sister in the synopsis..it’s not but it became one of my favorite books of all time. That book broke my heart and moved me, but more importantly it was really a micro look at Jim Crow, and I thought that was so effective. It gets all the praise for good reason.

Sadly I didn't have enough books (or money) to read only Black authors in February, but I managed it for the first half, and I found some that I really enjoyed. Especially "Parable of the Sower," that book gave me chills. On the tag of middle grade book length...I feel like it's important to remember that middle grade is usually upper elementary school, and that they are very capable of reading longer books. I was reading 400 page books in at least 4th grade, if not 3rd. That being said, I do think the fantasy-adventure ones should be more of a mix of length, rather than trying to make them all as long as possible.

i cannot remember if youve read the dead are arising by les and tamara payne but it is a great! behemoth of a malcom x biography that really works to unravel a lot of the mythos around that specific autobiography and just! it's a very interesting read so i highly recommend it whenever you have the time for a massive non-fic book

I didn't think I was going to ever read it because it's not my kind of general fiction, but Marines sold the hell out of it in a review she did last year, so I finally picked it up. So really it's only been on my TBR for about a year ;)
