I kinda feel bad for Nepo. The best player is not playing and Ding, the guy who won the candidates in dubious circumstances (Caruana and Hikaru not playing for the 2nd place) is completely out of sorts due to nerves. This is a shitshow and the win will come with a huge asterisk.

@@i_play_chess_8564 Ding's play seems to really depend on his mood/mental state.. He started the candidates essentially being at the bottom after like first 3-4 matches then suddenly once he managed to break that mental block he went crazy and finished second.. I hope the same happens now, but I think Ian is just too solid of a player + had prepped before for a WC and has experience playing it, so I think even Ding being at his top form will have a really hard time beating Nepo.. I am really rooting for Ding. Ding is just a nice guy, and very honest. When in top form, he is outstanding. He really had to work for this opportunity, playing 28 games in a month, or something like that, to be eligible. It would have been better if he had had strong competition in those games, but he did manage to perform highly, and avoid losing points. And still managed to play reasonably well in the candidates. I am hoping he will stay psychologically strong, and play as well as I know he is capable of playing. He has excellent endgame skills, though no part of his game is weak. Give him a reasonable advantage in endgame, and he has a good chance of getting the win.
