Edit: Quick story, I too was having troubles with getting a tail, specifically from Azure Rathalos. I got Kayamba with the Cannon Mask in one chance and he blasted Cha-Cha into the air, landing on Azure's tail and chopping it off, my jaw must have dropped because that was the sickest thing I've seen in my 3U playthrough; didn't know they could actually do that.

okay so, lvl1 pierce is 9x3 motion values (it does 3 ticks of damage through the body), slicing ammo dos 8x3 (it does 3 slashes) so it's very close damage wise. As a matter of comparison, lvl2 normal does 12motion value. So no slicing ammo doesn't suck. Btw rapid firing reduces the amount of damage per shot but you do additional ones, numbers come from monster hunter generation ultimate but I doubt they've changes much, normal ammo rapid fire modifier is x0.8, so you're 3 shots only deal 80% each. For Pierce its x0.7 and for slicing x0.9. So even if you do make less damage with slicing rapid fire it's still decent to have around.

I wish bowguns could get a bayonet attachment mod and get the 3 hit melee combo they have Frontier if attached. Would it be meta defining? Probably not. Would it allow for some cool niche playstyles? Yes, A bayonet attachment could also change the mounting finisher attack and maybe be stronger. And since bowguns are so modular maybe you could have and change between bayonets that can change the elements or status of the melee attacks
