The problem with the pick-up approach is that most people who do use it don't know when to quit, so when Boomhauer did try with Marlene, it destroyed him. What Bobby could learn from all this is to quit early. He picks up the first girl to say yes and try to be monogamous i.e. quit early.

This is why I miss King of the Hill--the writing is so realistic. Boomhauer's real secret was having such high self-esteem that he didn't care to be rejected 23 times by women before winning that one phone number. Notice how he was smiling throughout. This was a game to him, no more, no less, and he treated it as such. That is the type of confidence you need to teach kids, to dust oneself off and try, try, try again.

I love the differences between Bill and Boomhauer. One is constantly haunted by the possible rejection by women that he acts pitiful and stuck in the past, and the other isn’t insecure so he doesn’t stay hung up over rejection or humiliation, just living in the moment. I like how they didn’t just make Boomhauer a chick magnet, he’s realistic y’know?
@Vashthestampede9673 жыл бұрын
I mean yeah. Most of the time people don't understand the difference between ladies man and an average Joe is that he probably struck out a lot. Bills issue is that he was given the worst ways of living and coping with living. Cookies to make him feel better instead of eating when hungry. Hiding his lack of willingness to do things to push himself in moderation. Boomhauer is quite but he keeps himself and works his butt off to get where he is. He's He's Texas ranger, ladies man of sorts and most of all he understands that getting rejection of all sorts is natural. Bill is a man defined by his past. Boomhaur ignores it because he doesn't value it, go him it's why not try again? What's the worse that can happen?

I’m surprised at how a lot of people don’t get this. looks, charm and success all matter a lot and the more you have the better but main thing when it comes to guys who get a lot of women it that they talk to a lot of women, they ask out more women than most do without the fear of rejection stopping them, they put themselves in better and more positions for it, they pursue it more than other men.

What I like about Boomhauer is his confidence and the fact that when Bobby said that he got shut down 23 times before he got that number he brushed it off like it was nothing. I respect that type of attitude. Boomhauer asks every woman out because he's literally got nothing to lose and he has no fear of rejection. Honestly that's what I started doing in high school when I needed a date for an event, a dance or homecoming. Just asked every girl until one said yes. Trust me, it really does work.

Boomhauer straight up teaching Bobby valuable life lessons in rejection. I've seen too many guys completely destroyed just because the girl they liked, didn't like them back. There's plenty of fish in the sea and one of them is for you. Just because the wrong ones said No, shouldn't stop you from finding the right one who says yes.
@randolphsavage9760 Жыл бұрын
It’s also a great lesson in respect, boundaries and consent. If she says “no”, just back off and move on. It probably isn’t an insult maybe she just doesn’t want a relationship with anyone. Maybe she got out of one and wants to enjoy the single life for a bit. You just will never know for sure so don’t assume it’s the worst reason.
@personman51568 ай бұрын
I mean there's truth in that, but the point of this scene was to show that Boomhauer's idea of romance is just asking until someone says yes, and why that's not the method to use if you want something meaningful and lasting. The answer lies somewhere in the middle as always (that's usually the point of King of the Hill episodes.) You have to make more of an effort than this, but you also have to get back up when you fall so you don't end up like Bill (which is also something this episode shows)
@ChartreuseDan8 ай бұрын
@@personman5156 I think people get the wrong idea about what Bumhauer is teaching Bobby. Of course he wasn't showing Bobby how to "meet the love of his life" but you know what you've got to do before you meet someone you might love? When I was about 12, I was sitting next to my father outside on the farm as he sat on his stump reading the newspaper. He read a story about some dude who had committed suicide after his wife left him. "I don't understand why any man would kill himself over a woman." Pa was born in '26 and had me at 50, so I usually listened and didn't say much. He had a lot of wisdom from years of hard livin'. "Maybe he loved her." I said. Pa waited a minute then said, "Love? What is love? You'll love any old dog if it hangs around long enough." Sounded mean at the time and punctured my Hollywood idea of knightly romance. And that needed to be punctured because Pa was right. He also said, "Never depend on a woman to cook your meals, wash your clothes or clean your house. Learn how to do it yourself, son." I'm now nearing the age my Pa was when I was born and I wish I could thank him. His advice has stood me in good stead.

I wish they would have written the ending of this episode differently. This could have been a real learning experience. Instead, they just made bobby realize that "This isn't the best way to pick up women and find true love." And perhaps that is correct. But the writers failed to use this amazing opportunity to teach a much more important lesson in life. That this wasn't really about how to pick up women at all. It was about persistence. How to succeed in business, in life, in anything. Overcoming your fear of failure and rejection, having the grit and perseverance to continue and keep at it. Most of the time it isn't necessarily the smartest or the best but the one who doesn't quit so soon. If you haven't failed multiple times, you've probably not been doing it long enough. I wish they wrote it so Bobby would thank Boomhower for showing that to him and apply it to his everyday life.

Boomhauer is amazing and hilarious here and throughout the show but Bobby is so underrated. He's a good kid and likes whatever kid of his age does without lacking personality or being dull. Every single character in this show is so well written

this scene is particularly funny because of how innocent bobby actually is in all of this especially when boomhauer goes "whatu talking about dang ol love man" as he doesn't understand how boomhauer's way of picking up women will benefit him into getting into a relationship if he keeps being rejected only for later on in the episode he does find a girl his age to talk to, its so realistically written that even in that two minute clip there's so much that you can analyse through gotta respect koth

The cool thing about this scene is that Bobby and Boomhauer fundamentally misunderstood each other. Bobby was amazed that the Boomhauer has a secret to "getting women", problem is, Bobby doesn't know there is a difference in how picking women and courting the woman you are romantically interested in, is completely different. This is why Boomhauer himself laughs about the whole situation at the end. Had Bobby known to explain the situation, he wouldn't have suggested his "secret" method. Pretty wholesome all in all.

"difference in how picking women and courting the woman you are romantically interested in, is completely different" The are not mutually exclusive. I've dated women I picked up casually and know people who have gotten married like that.

One thing I appreciate is the small detail of Boomhaurs eyes jetting back and forth between the oath and the road 😂😂😂
