Looooong time coming. The series being stuck on gimped underpowered handhelds with outdated visuals while being overshadowed by its weeby spinoff brother Persona which was getting more attention did it no favors. I kinda wish this was a multiplatform release at launch though; as good as it looks on Switch; you can tell its struggling to be on that system just the same and would run phenomenally better on beefier hardware like PS5/PS4/PC (as emulation of it has already shown). Would be very easy to port anyway since its running on UE4. Hell, if I were them, I'd run it through UE5 and release it on PS5/PC with extra polygons and ray tracing 4K 60fps

Despite her weakness to fire, Mermaid is another solid pick for the Hydra fight. Her signature move can melt him, even on Hard if you set up buffs/debuffs and she can wipe a lot of the normal enemies in a turn or two which makes grinding easier. It's also worth noting the quest rewards for killing Apsaras/Leanan Sidhe are two Health/Stamina essences, the Health ones helped a ton in my run since I sided with Apsaras. On top of the great tips in this video, you can also farm for incences and balms (Incense, but for the main character) by running laps through the map for those quest NPC loot spots then teleporting back to the other end of the map. If she finds an encounter instead of an item it will often be a Mitama or four which combined with a stock of Spyglasses make for an easy way to farm Glory and Grimoires. The loot spots can rarely drop Sutras as well, allowing you to beef up your demons' elemental affinity and boost their damage output while lowering MP consumption. I got lucky with two Ice Sutras which I gave to Mermaid, but I'll bet you can find other types.
@Neonmirrorblack3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, could you maybe be a little more specific on what you mean by "those quest NPC loot spots"? Are you just talking about the "Navi" equivalent demon that flies around, giving you items when you go near the "!" spots? I thought those were static though, and once you dig them up (or whatever), they are gone. I haven't seen them respawn in the same spots. Are they actually just randomized around the map as you move through it or something?

@Neonmirrorblack3 жыл бұрын
@@zakizdaman Thanks. Good to know I guess, but not really practical. It's a waste of time to try to "farm" incense considering how low of a chance you have of getting one in the first place, and it's better to just progress the story and get the drops as you come across them.

Also changing demons out gives you a bonus action in this game, so it’s a really important part of strategy to me. You can use the strong ice demons like mermaid and asparas for the first 3 turns while you use a fire dampener each turn to block fire. Then switch them out or GUARD afterwards. The guard in this game is really incredible
@Ocean5ix3 жыл бұрын
Good tips. The game is amazing.. every boss feels like endgame min maxing of stats in other rpgs. You'll have to use 110% of your brain to fuse, refuse and inherit skills, use buffs, debuffs and magatsuhi skills at strategic moments and of course exploit weaknesses. All that and you still might just win by the skin of your teeth in a clutch "kill or be killed" round where all your demons died and only the mc is alive. It's a very rewarding experience as it always is with mainline SMT games.

By the title I thought this was going to be like some FFX videos, where people level grind to insane levels to get so overpowered that the rest of the game is a joke. I'm glad to see that this is not the case with this video. Excellent advice on how to use various things to build a good party for the first boss. The last SMT's that I played were Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga, so I'm still trying to learn the in's and out's of the essence, glory points, etc. That is the biggest obstacle at the beginning of the game and this video really helps, so that we can get comfortable with that. The biggest takeaway is to not save essence's, items or glory points, but when you run into a boss that you can't beat with your current build, use them to the fullest to make sure your team is prepared.

This isn't really optimal honestly. You want to invest in an offensive stat, either magic or strength right away. Also, loading your MC with all of those skills isn't going to really help you for the first boss. You want some debuffs, because it's going to be hard to get all of your guys to apply them Physical: - Aramasa (Aogami) - Fang Breaker (Neko Shogun) - Rakunda (Neko Shogun or Aogami) - Bufu (for first boss, Preta, Azumi) - Dream Needle (the first boss doesn't resist sleep, Sandman) Magic: - Zio - Bufu (Preta, Azumi) - Mazan (Sandman) - Rakunda (Aogami) - Dia (Pixie) Cover the other elements/buffs/debuffs with your other characters. Make sure another character has fang breaker and uses it if your MC doesn't.

So had to chip away their HP instead, even being OP in this franchise can be a curse lol.

while this is true, SMT damage formula still scale from level. even though you are rewarded from composition, you still need to be a certain level to progress, unless of course going for a broken build (that aside I still love the game though! just hoping they can remove the dependency from level or at least lower the contribution of level)

I'm on my first playthrough, found Hydra to be a real pain. Died on the first attempt, got through on the second. I was level 11ish and not particularly spec'd for the battle. My solution was to use defense debuffing skills along with ice magic (I did have Mermaid and Angel) and when my team got low on MP I swapped in fresh demons. I also, by dumb luck, had a spec'd out Daemon on my team that often caused Hydra to lose turns. I'll definitely be preparing for future boss battles. But then, some of the random encounters are 1-2 shotting the main character as well. Nothing quite like taking out a Mitama, then dying in the next random encounter due to bad crit luck. >> Save often, kids.

Apsaras Route Solution: Set her in 2nd or 1st slot, use ice attacks on MC and her, have 3rd slot not weak to fire/dark (depending on taste), and either try to have it with a spell that hits hard or hits a weakness, or both (Mermaid is a fit as you should be ~lv15 when fighting the boss, but you don't need to be, just lower the level the harder it is), and 4th slot can be anything (again, I recommend ice attacking, not weak to the attacking types of this demon, you should be able to get a bufu onto a demon of this description), then, what you do is attack with her when it comes back around to her again as at least 1 or 2 Ice attacks will have happened. Guard. The boss does not get an extra turn. I only recommend it this way, because you can make a much better version of her later, and ALSO you get her EXP which will be a lot from a higher level demon. So, I'd personally recommend Apsaras route (the Ice Demon chick) and just have her guard on round 2 of the fight. Oh and if she's in 1st slot, iirc, she has a special option that isn't just "critting," I forget her effect, but I remember it was good, so her being 1st slot, Nahabino in 2nd, both having bufu, and guarding on Apsaras (actually if using mermaid, highly suggest having her in 2nd and Nahab 3rd as she too is weak to fire.) With um.... Azumi? I wanna say an Azumi should be on team because only weak to electric and not fire. Either way more Bufu=more turns=more damage, guard on fire weak demons and have non-fire weak characters towards the end of the lineup. (Like Nahab and an Azumi.) Always attack with as much bufu turn 1-4 as you can, and then add in guarding on the weaknesses turn 2, while still bufuing (if not in death range) on your not weak to fire people. Nahab should be as close to the front as possible, but allowing for the ones who *need* guards upfront.

Would you mind doing a more in depth video on how you maxed out your elemental affinities the way you did? It would be super awesome. Thank you for the tip on having the spyglasses in your inventory.
@damedus3 жыл бұрын
i simply used 50 spyglassses to get to lv 32 or so and fused a almighty attack demon, he then leved and gave me his essence and had my nahobino learn that, from there i did not need spyglasses for mitamas as i can 1 aoe hit them with allmighty attacks that dont count as blocks, did hydra about 5h into the game took 1 turn lol

This is actually a good video, Sidhe however is weak to poison and also by this point you already have a couple of Ice Gem, which deals heavy ice damage. I had 6 of those.. + lowering the boss defense. Easy fight. (well.. this still is SMT so, still was challenging) but this team (or any other team) just wont work for the next boss that is literally just after this. Nuwa. And that's why i love SMT. It keeps you changing strats every time..
@Relisoc43 жыл бұрын
Nuwa kinda pissed me off with the half health thing. My first try I obviously got blown up. Bring some force resists, get her to 75% or so, and I’m doing okay, but I just didn’t have enough mp to kill her. So, I reset the game, used a couple gospels and some grimoires, and to my dismay, the fight ended at 50%. I should have guessed it though with how insanely slow her health was decreasing

I ended up doing the oposite quest, git apsaras instead. If I knew they’d join my party I’d do the other one, but I JUST saved over that save slot.

Instead of Aeros though, you should fuse Aquans instead. He has +3 in Ice so it'll be easier to defeat the first boss.

I would like to see a video on whether to go physical/ magic or hybrid , my fiest shin megami game, I heard in the past physical was the way to go for big numbers and outclassed magic late game. Is that the case here?
@epicadventureturtle13633 жыл бұрын
That was largely because magic couldnt crit in previous games and some lategame enemies had no weaknesses or covered them up, so you wouldnt get extra turns as caster. Phys/Magic are really close in this game and its pure preference.
@taylorclark10483 жыл бұрын
@@epicadventureturtle1363 Does it hurt you longterm if you go hybrid? Or should you pick one or the other and beef it up more.
@epicadventureturtle13633 жыл бұрын
@@taylorclark1048 Better to pick one. For hard mode you definitely need vit too. So something like 2 int/strength and 1 vit every 3 levels might be optimal. Lots of people recommend agility but it didnt feel that great, definitely a worse stat than vit imo. Luck is weird because you have ways to auto crit anyways.

Ah man, I struggled HARD against that first boss. Wish I saw this first. I didn't even think to not fulfill the demon's request and even THAT fight against the lvl 17 was brutal. I always manage to *just* squeeze by with enough HP.

I recommend do magic build in this game. I mean physical build is also good and will crush the late game once you unlocked more aogami essence with bigbang skill (maybe because i saw it in the trailer of the game) and charge. It’s natural in all smt game that magic strong early game but physical much more stronger in late game (except smt4. Flynn is definitely magic caster)
